A team variant with one main rule- the team plays cooperatively, but while
"hostile" towards each other! Any party can play in "friendly fire" mode,
using skills that the party agrees upon. The following rules apply to
characters that are built solely as a friendly fire team (but may be helpful
for drop-in friendly fire mode players too).
Skills
When choosing your class, keep in mind some of the skills are prohibited:
Sorceress-
Frozen Orb
Hydra
Chain Lightning
ThunderStorm
Although Blizzard is AOE, it is not prohibited (but it is a dangrous spell
to use. Use with caution), because it can be aimed and dosent cover the
whole screen, and that other players can see the area being affected.
Druid-
All animals are out.
Armageddon - Hurricane is ok because the AOE is relatively small and can
be easily seen, but armageddon is unpredictable.
Posion Creeper is out, but solar creeper is ok because it dosent attack
live stuff.
Spirit of Barbs, can be dangerous if accidentally attacked.
Rabies - can be spread, and its 'danger area' cannot be seen.
Necromancer-
Summonables only as agreed upon by the party. A single golem or skeleton
can be very helpful for getting killing blows. No revives or skeletal
mages.
Curses that work on enemies(im, amp etc) should be, if used, kept to a
minumum slvl for smaller radius.
Poison nova, corpse explsion, and poison explosion can be used if kept
to small radius
Paladin-
Holy Shock
Holy Fire
Holy Freeze
Conviction
Assassin-
Blade Sentinel and Blade Fury can be used with caution.
Don't use other traps.
Pheonix Strike- used with caution
Shadow Master and Warrior are out
Barbarian-
nothing prohibited, since warcry/battlecry have small radius
Amazon-
Valkyrie
Strafe
Pierce (possibly allowed if kept to low levels and agreed upon by all
party members)
Further Notes
Although barbarians seems to be unhindered, if you are all melee (same
as other classes) its a tough role to play when hostile. Some form of
ranged attack will be vital. Even though some skills are to be used with
extreme caution, one may need to have these at a high enough level to
do some serious damage, when you are falling behind on lvls and need to
get in some killing blows with your partners help.
Quests
Most quests can be completed while in hostile mode, but all team members
must be in the immediate area when the quest boss is killed. In addition,
if one member of the team has already completed a quest for some reason,
it is important to let a team member who has not completed the quest have
the killing blow.
There are some exceptions:
Act One: There is
no way to get to Tristram as a hostile party. So, the team must party
up before entering the portal to Tristram. The team can kill the Smith
while hostile, but must party up before turning in the malus.
Act Two: The team
must make a party in order to use the portals into and out of the Arcane
Sanctuary. But, the Arcane Sanctuary itself may be completed while hostile.
Act Three: Party up
before turning in a quest item.
Act Four: You can
choose how you wish to complete the Hellforge quest. The same number of
gems and runes will drop, regardless of how many players are partied with
the person who completes the quest, and only people in the party will
receive quest credit. In all situations, Hephasto can be defeated while
hostile.
Act Five: Credit for
the Barbarian rescue is still undetermined. Party up before thawing Anya.
Notes -You
may find it helpful to use the first 8 levels, when you can't ho hostile
with each other, to practice. If possible, Cain should be defeated in
Normal before the characters are old enough to hostile each other. -You
will only get experience points for monsters killed by your character.
-While hostile, you will only be able to enter your own town portals.
Cast them often!
