There doesn't seem to be a lurker thread, and I hope that doesn't mean nobody cares about this game. In any case, maybe making one will generate some interest.
Since we seem to be done with the XCOM SGs, I think we should start some more SGs of old games. One of my favorites originally released for SNES/DOS/Windows and probably some other stuff was Metal Marines. It was a fairly entertaining economic real time strategy game based around attacking one island from another island using missiles and giant robots.
So yeah, you can probably google the rest yourself. Its pretty easy to pick up and learn and only the later levels get really difficult (a few almost require save/reload).
One Caveat: It cannot be easily bought since it hasn't been reprinted. It is currently considered abandonware and only really available on used cartridge. Due to this, there are several legitimate sites that offer it for free download.
Burter: He may be fast... but he's not faster then the fastest guy in the universe! Jeice: okay mate, we need to talk. About this whole "fastest in the universe thing". First off, the captains got a higher power level then you. Burter: yeah so? Jeice: well then, correct me if i'm wrong, but a higher power level means he's faster yeah? Burter: well, okay, maybe Jeice: And lord Frieza's got a higher power level then all of us... Burter: okay that's just not fair Jeice: and if you think about it... Guldo can stop time... Burter: ughh! Jeice: So that technically makes him faster then- Burter: No NO NO! I am NOT slower then F***ing Guldo! Jeice: Burter Calm down.
I feel like revisiting CtP2 if anyone wants to SG it with me. I actually played CtP2 before Civ3. I liked Civ3 more but CtP2 was rather... interesting at times especially when you got floating land battleships, giant robots, and ecoterrorists insta-nuking the most polluting cities off the planett...
Hey everyone, you better hide yo' kids, hide yo' wife, and hide the husbands too, because it's time for :

Right, with that out of the way here's the scenario description: This game has a scoring mechanism. Your mission, aside from winning the scenario through whatever means necessary, is to obtain as many different units from the list at the end of this post as possible. Each different unit which you obtain from the list earns you a single point; players will be ranked at the conclusion of the Adventure from most to least points. Multiple copies of a unit do not earn you extra points- a single tiger will earn you as many points as twelve (one point). Units *must be alive and under player control upon winning the game* to count for scoring purposes. Although not required, it is encouraged for players to take a picture of their military advisor screen to assist in confirming their final owned unit tallies upon the turn of their victory. Units which have been merged into a city no longer count for scoring- if you have only one gorilla, it's up to you whether it's worth keeping it around for the point or sticking it in a cage. Units do not have to actually be 'captured' to count for scoring; those simply built by the player count just as well, provided that they are around on the final turn of the game. Temporary summons count for scoring as well, as long as they have not disappeared on the final turn (the turn before you hit 'end turn' and win or lose).
The game also has a special additional rule- players may not make peace with the Rival (who you start at war with). If for whatever reason you end up at peace with him anyway, you must redeclare as soon as the option is available. Reloading in the case of accidentally proposing peace is acceptable.
As the main intent for the game is for players to have fun and not drive themselves stark raving mad with maximizing scoring, there are additionally three STARS (Stellar Typography Actually Related to Scoring) disassociated from collecting units which players can earn:
* The Bronze Star of Bulbasaur is for winning by Conquest.
* The Silver Star of Squirtle is for using only units from the scoring list to take cities (indirect collateral damage from other sources is still acceptable).
* The Chrome Star of Charmander is for never using more than six units plus the starting Adventurer (who can be upgraded) for any offensive action outside your borders. The role of Chrome will be played today by "SlateGray".
Players who have earned STARS will still be ranked by order of score, but will have their STARS appear by their name.
Concerning the scenario difficulty level- the AI has received boosts which, while not nearly as severe as those in FFH Adventure 3, will make it play more like an Immortal AI than Emperor in practice.
As a final note before the units scoring list, be aware that as with Adventures 2 & 3, this scenario has been entirely hand-crafted, and has several significant differences from the average randomly-generated map. There is no guarantee that players will be able to obtain _every_ unit from the list below, and therefore you are discouraged from falling into a state of existential despair attempting to do so. Please keep in mind that as the Kuriotates, you can only build units in three cities, so chose carefully which you wish to keep as Cities rather than Settlements when exploiting your Tolerant trait. As always, all comers are welcome to try a hand and report the result, whatever it may be. Enjoy!

(If the attached save for some reason doesn't extract properly, send me a PM with your email & I'll give you the new file, or otherwise let me know what the issue is if it's something I can fix here.)
So, I've been toying with the idea for some time of making a simple map viewer and/or editor for worldbuilder saves. So I decided to drum together something real quick. Behold my advanced map viewer:
More usefully, I added a Balance Checker that does a breadth-first traversal from each player's starting position to determine each player's sphere of influence. The program then counts the various resources found within that sphere, and calculates other useful metrics such as the total food potential of the sphere.
I think this could be a useful tool for balancing maps, and I'd also like to add some bulk editing operations that are missing in the WorldBuilder program.
Here's another example of the tool in action, using a Lakes map. The screenshots are from the 1.0 version with crappy graphics.
For those not playing PB4 there's an interesting analysis of the PB4 map in the PB4 lurker thread as well.
