Random cool stuff thread

Couldn't think of a good name smile I politely request permission to use this thread to make random requests for stuff the tweaker can change in-game to enhance the game experience somehow. I'll start with:

Retreating
WhiteMage made an interesting suggestion about retreating which concerns letting units flee on an individual basis. Details aside, would something like that be possible? Would be much easier to balance something like that, although there'd be obvious AI problems.

I think it would be possible.

When a unit moves to the edge of the battlefield, the Tweaker could detect that and remove the unit from battle.
It would take some experimentation to see how it works out.

For instance, what happens when the last unit is removed from battle?
Who is victorious then? Does the battle even end?

I fleshed out the suggestion some more in the Catnip section. Basically, you order units to retreat on an individual basis when at a border tile and they then have to survive for x turns before they're removed. When no units are left, whoever has units on the battlefield is victorious.

I've just tried it out by reducing the number of battle units in a battle.

It turns out that the units are indeed removed from the battle instantly.
If only your unit(s) remain, you're victorious.
If no units remains, you're "defeated".
Your units retreat automatically to the square they came from.

I tested this with a lair, and this did cause something that was unexpected.
All the monsters in the lair came out and stayed on top of their temple.
This was consistent with the lair data which did not contain any monsters anymore! lol

So this poses the question: what happens to defenders that retreat?
Can they retreat at all? And if so, where do they go to?
Or should we let them stand outside (on top of) their lair?
At first it seems weird, but now that I think about it, it means that from now on forward you can see exactly which units defend the lair, which may be exactly what you want.
