Imperium 35 - Going Green

@ PBMUM
Hm, sounds like you restarted at least once or even twice without facing a game crash or misclicking. That should be against the Imperia rules but hey, you are new and enjoy a decade old classic which is just great! I guess you won't win this Imperium. smile

The fascinating thing is that everyone has to deal with an individual game, sometimes even the major enemy differentiates!

If you have selected a planet on the main map and type "b", you can scrap existing missile bases. Sometimes one overbuilds i.e. forget to cut defense spending or in rare situations wants to lose a planet. Typing "c" on the main map displays whether spies were caught in the last turn. Hence no cheating, just hidden shortcuts...

Your 1st try is what gets reported. If you play again that is considered a shadow game smile

Game complete.
On average, everybody thinks they are above average.

The first game was zombwtfbbq sauce. Within the first 30 turns I had failed to get a third system, all three green stars at the top were owned by separate races, all of which were at war with me AND had their main fleets docked there. The meklar were about to declare war and they had the upper right two green planets.

It was... not a winnable game via green only planets. I've never seen the AI go that expansion crazy before (straight at me) while aggressively defending what they had. yikes

I wonder what made it so different...

@PBMUM
I totally understand what you mean, but please let us wait with the game discussion after the deadline. I haven't had a look on the game, yet. smile

Getting smacked by the AI is one of the teaching things of Imperia games. Has happened to me several times! I do not know whether you were familiar with kyrup's patch before, the AI expansion speed is now just brutal... Maybe you didn't flag systems with scouts?

Thanks for posting this! It occurs to me belatedly that I really should have included several links like this in the original post. I'll go edit those in shortly.

And thanks for being on top of this, Sullla! (And Horist! This is the trouble with having a "moderator" like me who can't check the forums regularly....)

Yup, that's it!
Quote:Perhaps I misunderstand the deadline. If everyone posts the last day of the competition then the poor chump who posts late but finished early is left out in the cold?
I apologize for failing to make this clear (or at least linking to the Imperium rules). "Closing Day" is the first day when we post reports about a given Imperium, to ensure that no one receives any spoilers (especially accidentally). There is indeed therefore just a two-day window to post reports, but if you've got a report ready and think you might not be able to post it on the relevant Monday and Tuesday, you can always send it to me in advance (using the link in my profile here or just sending it to OrionCiv at everyone-already-knows-which-email-provider-everyone-uses-by-now) and ask that I post it for you on closing day.

In any case, there's nothing wrong with posting a Shadow report if you miss the deadline - or if an early loss or too-easy win leaves you wanting to start over and have another try at an Imperium. Shadow reports won't be included in the "official" results, but we love a good report (and avoiding early spoilers!) a lot more than we care about the "official results" tallies. I've played a Shadow of pretty much every Imperium I sponsored (since, as sponsor, I'm unavoidably spoiled to an extent already) and posted the reports on my site, for instance. (Plus a shadow game of Imperium 12 after I completed my first play-through when I wanted to try it again with a different strategy.)

Please do wait until the deadline to post about your game though, including even short notes and questions like these. I don't want you to lose what you wrote, in case you don't have a backup handy, so (like Sullla) I'm not going to actually delete any posts, but if you'd be willing to edit the spoilers out of your posts - you can copy what you wrote into a file you can post later and then cut the content from the posts in this thread - that would be much appreciated.

In any case, many thanks for giving the game a try; I'm looking forward to reading your report after the 25th - and I'm sorry for my failure to make things clearer in the first place!

I definitely know the feeling. Good luck finishing in time though! (And yes, I'm definitely hoping to post a shadow report of my own.)

COOL!
Quote:[...] in theory it'd be possible to write a script that looks at the saved games in order and makes an animated .gif showing the "area of influence" of each of the races, as a visual history of how the game went.
Wow. That would be amazing - even if it just showed which stars were controlled by whom, turn by turn, it would be a really neat thing to watch at the end of a game.
Quote:Oh yeah and it should be possible to change the colors.
EXTREMELY cool! Let me know if there's some way I can help out.

And finally:

It just occurred to me that there is a way I might be able to help (at least slightly). Hopefully I'm not too late, but: For reference on those occasions when you're unsure, here are the two galactic maps again, this time with crude circles drawn around the green stars on each one:

Thanks again, ref, I would have drawn the same map for myself after clicking on every planet! smile

Looks like the gentle starting position is rather juicy... Can't wait to start the game but have to wait until Easter. And this time I really want to post a report.

Game completed - messed the date of Easter... :-)

21 downloads total. Some people probably played both, but hopefully we get 10-15 reports. smile
