Paladin and Sorceress can be too OP in the Variants' sense, but too painful to play if nerf'd too much. So hard to find a balance, especially if you try to have a themes.

I am beginning to think Thorns and Sacrifice, something like your modern day suicide bomber. But of course the points is still, to stay alive, with a set of restrictions.
Usable lvl of Thorns, Spirit Of Bard, Iron Maiden and Iron Golem can be had from items.
If Sacrifice, that would require using the Skill tree, or shop for low lvl sticks (such stick is guaranteed to do next to nothing damage even in Norm Diff).
Maybe a Pally GoGoGadget is doable on that theme. Certainly would be easier with a baba's dual wield and slight advantage with HP, or, not restricted to stick with the Sacrifice theme.
Ideally, the pally should be wearing thin armor with no shield to take full advantage of Thorns.
