I could see a possibility where Luddite might have played for second place if he wanted, if one player got naval superiority enough that he could land artillery against the other, or else just holding out until one of the leaders eliminated the other. I don't know if Luddite would have cared, or if playing for second is a meta-thing at all around here. Or, who knows, maybe the horse will sing (that was a fun side discussion )

I would have, if it looked like the game might have ended reasonably soon. But it seemed like we were still looking at, like, a *year* to finish this game if you fight it all out to the bitter end.
