Update

I've had a candidate game for Imperium Six in the works, but I'm not entirely satisfied with it as yet. I will probably go with it, but I have not made that final decision yet.

A couple of weeks have passed since IMP5 closed. I hope some of you have been making good use of the time to play Epic 43. smile Or to enjoy the summer (for those of you in the northern hemisphere!wink

I will keep you updated as developments occur.

You must be psychic. I had allredy decided if something wasnt up by tonite I'd send out the dogs to find you. :P

I've tried hard to get interested in civ again, but I cant seem to frown.

I guess after 500+ games played, beating Sid on the 2nd try, & mainly the fact that Conquests worsened gamepaly rather than improved it (imho), I'm having hard time enjoying even fresh variants frown.

I suppose I'm mainly just a victim of my own expectations, stuck dwelling on what Conquests coulda/shoulda been vs the incredibly flawed product it is frown (even if it isnt anywhere nearly as flawed as it was pre 1.15)

anyway, enough whining about civ in the moo forum. Thanks for the update.

It's been a couple weeks since the last report, and well over a month since the last Imperium closed so I thought I'd request an update.

I know you are very busy with RL issues right now (how's the mrr.. err kitty btw?) and that those rightly need to take prescedence over any gaming activity, but if it is going to be much longer would you consider giving us a "filler" imperium (maybe Zed or somoe could host?) to hold us over till the "main event" huge impossible one?

I don't mean to sound ungreatful. Nothing could be further from the truth. There wouldn't even be imperiums of any kind if it wasn't for you, and I'm very greatful to you for reviving this great classic (and in the process making me dig up other really old games to replay, as far back as the Bards Tale series even). It's just that:

1) I'd hate to see this fledgling tourney lose intrest by taking too long of a break between games and

2) Now I'm addicted to these Imperiums and it's all your fault! :P

Either way, if you could at least give us an update, I'd be eternally greatful  (or l for at least 2 weeks, whichever comes first :P )

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

And, have you met me already? :D

Not yet. Still in the catacombs. It's amazing how many map and game features I remember almost 20 years after I first played it. IIRC, "your" tower is about the most annoying "dungeon" in all of rpgdom...... especially if you didnt get the crystal golem / crystal sword thing for a while .... though iirc "your" monsters are much less cheap than Mangars.

BTW, I swear the first time I met "you" I was dissappointed I couldn't kill the person responsible for that hideous dungeon. I waited in vain for the options:

Put down your weapons
Fight him

-Maniac (who now wonders if anyone will be nostalgic enough to dig up Wing Commander I-IV to "meet him")

No, but I well remember how annoying "you" were -- you kept on flying straight into my line of fire, or into enemy missles, like "you" had a death wish or something. You always seemed to prefer trading shots with the enemy when badly outnumbered, when the smart thing to do was dodge like crazy. I always rued the day I had to fly a mission with you, and try to keep you alive... :D

LOL! Yeah, that's pretty much true of the character in the early games. Maniac was HORRIBLE in 1 and the pre WC II games. He was much improved in WC II, though still annoying. By WC III though, he was a good wingman, and great source of comic relief, even if you did want to kill him a few times durring the non combat story. In the last 2 games, I actually grew fond of the jerk. Fond enough to use the name everywhere Underdog was taken (which is pretty much everywhere on the net). He evolved over the series in much the same way as a Major Houlihan evolved over the life of M*A*S*H, becoming a caracter rather than a caricture. Besides, he outlived "you" (Blair) in the end <_< Anyway..... I've got an appointment to see one Kylearan.

-Maniac (To the tower fly, a Mad God die, once lost the eye hammer .... odd how you remember things 20 years later....)

Hi,

Quote:It's amazing how many map and game features I remember almost 20 years after I first played it.

Indeed. What I found funny when playing it again after about 15 years was that, if asked, I would have been unable to draw a map of (for example) the catacombs, yet when I put down my fingers on the keyboard and wished them to bring me to a certain spot, like the stairs to the next level, they remembered the sequence of keystrokes to guide me there without problems...

Amazing! hammer

BTW... I'm probably going to produce IMP7 in response to the call for "give us something to play". IMP6 will then come out of order, but we can't have our cake and eat it, too. smile
