Rifles in 3t.
I thought about tech options for the immediate future. I can
a) aim for Military Tradition
This opens drafting and Cavalry. It also allows for horribly expensive West Point, which would nevertheless allow for 15xp infantry and 4 (!) promo mounted units from Composure. That would be a sheer terror of commando Cavalry out of the gate as soon as I get Military Science.
b) aim for Railroad
Ironworks in Composure for 1t everything, Cannons and Machineguns for a leisurely warmongering.
c) aim for Astronomy
And go dump some rifles in Dave's / Commodore's backline with Galleons. Opens a small useful bonus in observatories, might force my dearest enemy to tech Astronomy himself and obsolete Colossus way sooner than he'd like. Also, i have a source of whales that's worth +2happy that waits to be netted.
Right now I'm leaning for c) -> a) -> b)
In the meantime, I'm going to squeeze some more cities inside my land. Prime spot is where Commodore's spear is standing right now
I sent two phracts to shoo it away. Plans are to build three Guerilla 2/CG 1 Longbows and a pair of triple promoted rifles and sit on that hill. This city will be extremely secure and give me another avenue of attack on Kusari later on.
Then there's Yuri's border. Gaspar/NH are about to take New Istanbul
My actual cultural borders reach as indicated. If they burn the city, there's nowhere sensible they can replant it and I'll resettle the site. If they keep it, they won't have any use of it until forever and I'll offer them some gold for it. Either way, I expect it'll be mine.
