Imperium 37 - Declaration of Independence

I just wanted to say, good work at beating that map. thumbsup Good to see that someone put the Meklar back into their place.

Prolly I should have posted the crazy map in a different thread, but Nad's also-crazy map looks quite interesting (I doubt if I'll have time to play with it unfortunately). Just to get back on the topic of Imperium 37 for a moment though:

(Sponsor's Shadow) Game complete!

(And I still have a couple weeks to write my report! What luxury!)

Sorry for spoiling this thread, Ref.

Game completed as well (was kind of a déjà-vu smile) and a nice report coming up... I am looking forward to read about your game experience!

Sorry it's taken me so long to get back here and reply!

No worries; it's not spoiled, just slightly sidetracked - and it's my fault for posting my "rejected" map first!

Thanks! I look forward to reading yours as well, although I hope it didn't turn out deja-vu-ish for most. I'll have to wait for reporting day to find out what you mean, so ... well, instead of adding spoilers abotu how my game went, I'll do that waiting thing ... and get my report finished up!

No worries, Ref, real life always comes first. The déjà-vû should be a personal one due to my previous Birdies game with the posted map... wink

Hi everyone! I'm new here. I played MoO back when it came out, and then forgot about it for many years. I think I got it installed on my new Windows XP machine back in 2000 or so, and I have been playing it off and on since then. It was only in the last few years that I discovered Sirian's and Sullla's amazing resource pages and was able to really up my game.
I've recently been playing a lot of Orion as an escape from working on my Master's thesis, and if a new Imperium game gets posted here I hope to get in on the excitement. For now I'm contenting myself with playing through old games for myself, and reading the reports posted here and elsewhere.
I really didn't intend this to be quite so historic. I don't really post online, but I just couldn't resist here. Ref, I read your report on this game, and I am in awe! I laughed, I cried, I was amazed by your narrative and literary talents. Thank you!
And so, from a random post in a random thread, it is a pleasure to meet everyone, and I hope to play with you soon!

Welcome to the MOO forum, Ianus! It is always nice to meet another MOO fanatic. smile Unfortunately, the Imperia games seem to have fallen back to Snow White Sleep due to Ref's unspecified illness. But I think we have a lot of almost legendary games in the archives providing a lot of lessons and fun.

Great to have you around and good luck for your thesis (MOO's sister MOM ruined my Master grade).

Best,
Nad

As it turns out...

Welcome! I'm still amazed by the staying power of this old game; it appears that good gameplay really does shine through.

I'm not surprised: They both have really terrific MoO sites, both for sheer entertainment and for learning the game. It hasn't been that many years since I first turned up here, having learned the game in part from the same sources.

Hey, if you want to post reports on any of the old games, they're still more than welcome as shadow reports! As for another Imperium ... hmmmmm ... well, see below.

Eek! I'm flattered! I must admit the Declaration of Independence / "Dear Amrrsha" report is among my favorites of all the ones I've written. In any case, it's great to meet you too!

Aye; the frustrating thing (well, one of them) is that it's still an unspecified illness. My doctor is calling it sciatica, but that's basically just physicianese for "We know which set of sensory nerves are messed up, but we don't know how or why." The good news is, my condition does seem to be improving. (The bad news is that it's improving slllllllowllllly.) I can actually walk about twice as fast as I could a month or two ago, although I still have so far to go that I wonder now how I managed to function at all back then. I'm feeling much better than I was early on, when I couldn't walk more than half a block at any speed before the pain would just overcome me.

The other good news is that I've improved my internet connection significantly. Time and pain are limiting my online activities (it turns out to be better for me to walk around than to stand still ... and sitting is right out; I'm typing this on a laptop propped on top of a low bookcase) but I'm around at least, and it's possible (if there's still interst and especially if someone has a proposed map/variant-if-any they'd like to submit for the purpose, which would make my part much easier) that we could start another Imperium soon(ish) after the Holiday season.
