[SPOILER] Dark Savant's thread: Competition for limited resources remains a constant

Two things I don't understand:

1) Why were you plotting against me this entire game? After reading a bit I see that I was correct in my assumptions. You're referring to my island city as encroaching/advanced, yet it's more than 13 tiles away from your capital. Most maps have ~12-15 tiles between starting players. That alone would suggest that it's much closer to me than to you, but you even have a replica of this island yourself just by your capital. Is it such a stretch to assume I had the same? My "advance" city borders my capital city. noidea

2) I don't understand your reaction to my whale for silk offer at all. That was me offering whales, a resource that few civilizations had and I was the only one to have a spare of, being offered to you for a trade of a resource you had 8 or more of and should be dying to give away. That is an amazing deal for you, and was one of many examples of me reaching out to you and trying to be long term friends. Yet you shut me down like every other attempt. I didn't need the surplus happy right away, I was just letting you know that as soon as you hook up your 2nd silk you'll have whales.

IMO you are playing this way too much as a duel instead of a FFA. We are on different continents, it is not in my interest to attack you unless I have no other options. You could've used me way more.

I had no idea it was really that close to you!  Most maps do have ~12-15 tiles between starts but I thought this script was typically more than that.

It's of course possible that the map was artificially changed so that things were closer, but I had no reason to expect symmetry (land quality turned out to vary significantly), and my other neighbors did turn out to have seriously distant capitals.

Well, I felt you had a very strong position early on, and thought I ought to do something about it, even if it were nigh suicidal.

Rusten and I are going to continue to just stalemate against each other for a while here, aren't we.  I could retake the western coastal cities, but he can always counter-attack that readily, and I'd need to actually build workers to pull that off reasonably.  Eh.

Rusten is now counter-attacking Commodore.  OH has some airships in the area which I presume are now helping to bombard infantry.

AT captured one of the southern cities, attacking straight off a galleon loaded with rifles.  I killed the first two rifles on defense and the third was badly injured, so I just retook the city.  Total cost one longbow to kill three rifles, that level of loss against not-Rusten is fine.

Also, GeneralKilCavalry for some reason offered to declare war on AT for nothing other than Fish-for-Fish?  Wait what?

Well ... I accept, might as well throw another wrench into this game while I still can.  crazyeye

I'd meant to reply earlier.   The main reason I attacked was to actually make some attacks.   I mean, it's nice to take empty cities, but I really, really wanted some great generals and the result of you leaving was for me to not be able to get them.

That island city near our continent you beat to us by a few turns, I think.   We really wanted it, because you were right next to our collosus city, which was much of our economy at that point.
