I don't have much hope.

I never once bought Civ5, which is the first game in the series that I entirely skipped. So maybe I owe it to myself to give the newer games a fair shake. I just hate 1UPT so much for this type of game, and I was really hoping they'd ditch it with CiVI. Oh well.

The price pre-DLC is already on the high end.

The vibe I got from that was that it's a more polished Civ5, building on the existing systems and trying to make them better.

RB will hate it so no revitalization of the forum in sight frown

Everything that Beach is selling as a plus, seems a minus.

Well, exception of modability. The FFH2/EitB success shows that alone might make this sucker worthwhile.*

*assuming mods can be made to play nice with the Brave New World of Steam

Quote:EXPANSIVE EMPIRES: See the marvels of your empire spread across the map like never before. Each city spans multiple tiles so you can custom build your cities to take full advantage of the local terrain.
ACTIVE RESEARCH: Unlock boosts that speed your civilization’s progress through history. To advance more quickly, use your units to actively explore, develop your environment, and discover new cultures.
DYNAMIC DIPLOMACY: Interactions with other civilizations change over the course of the game, from primitive first interactions where conflict is a fact of life, to late game alliances and negotiations.
COMBINED ARMS: Expanding on the “one unit per tile” design, support units can now be embedded with other units, like anti-tank support with infantry, or a warrior with settlers. Similar units can also be combined to form powerful “Corps” units.
ENHANCED MULTIPLAYER: In addition to traditional multiplayer modes, cooperate and compete with your friends in a wide variety of situations all designed to be easily completed in a single session.
A CIV FOR ALL PLAYERS: Civilization VI provides veteran players new ways to build and tune their civilization for the greatest chance of success. New tutorial systems introduce new players to the underlying concepts so they can easily get started

I'm moderately hopeful? I sincerely doubt it will have the mechanical clout that Civ 4 has, since it sounds like it will be Civ5 2.0. However, If it has working multiplayer, and a little decent balancing, I could see it having its place.

If it's true though that they aren't doing a CiV style cut out everything and then package it in expansions, this might not be bad.

To be fair it feels like we tend to hate everything new at first on principle. lol

Please note, that I'm not actually down on any of the Firaxis choices. Civ5 was a massive success and much loved by a huge fanbase; they would be completely stupid to make it more like Civ4 than Civ5.

Grump grump grump smile

Given how games are priced (and time commitments), I'll probably play it in the summer of 2017, unless the let's plays look really interesting. With these systems seeing it in action from a Let's play is probably the best way to figure out if it's worth committing time to.

For modding, my impression was that in CIV V we never really got the accessibility of CIV IV, but I could be mistaken as I never really dove in.
