Bloodbath!

It looks like those janissaries (cuirassiers?) pack a punch after all. Dreylin definitely got the worse end of the exchange, his power level dropped close to mine now despite all the presumed whipping.

Ginger was kind enough to share his world map for free, which shows the progress he's made on his front. I believe Dreylin had just built the hindu shrine in the holy city, which leaves his decision to throw his knights at my mini stack in the south that much more puzzling. Those units might have made a real difference against Ginger in the north. Was it worth it?

The map trade also shows why Superdeath is doing so well. He's got very good land, and a lot of it, in the east. Presumably some of it belonged to the late ricketyclick.

I also watched the dune movies back to back recently, so expect a post soonish...

As Dreylin continues to get pounded away, his power dropping, Ljubjana enters the fray against Ginger:

At first I looked at the number of units and thought, "Hey, Civac might actually be in trouble here." Then I looked at the unit composition. Two muskets, one knight, no catapults. The majority of the attacking forces here is longbows??? Is this how ljubjana conquered GT? I mean, it's kind of neat, using all those promotions, but you can't do anything with those units on the offence post medieval era. 5 cuirs would obliterate this stack. He can burn one border city here, but that's it. Maybe that's lljubjana's goal, setting Ginger back with spare trash while he can.

Fun things you can do by never adjusting espionage spending. Naufragger and superdeath are at war, and Nauf has access to grenadiers. Too bad I don't have vision on the battlefield.

I'm slowly reconstituting my own forces and may make another attempt at grabbing a Dreylin city. Surely he won't throw 15 knights and a GG at me again after losing a shrine to Ginger, right?

Ginger has a gigantic Jannissary + catapult stack 2-3 tiles from Dreylin's capital.

What's a man got to do to get his danegeld?

Fine, guess I'll wait for more catapults. (Civac burned another city off Dreylin this turn, btw). If he loses his capital and keeps these units here I'm calling this a lame play.

The world's wackiest offensive continues. I don't even know why ljubjana is doing this, since he burnt the other city. Espionage shows Naufrogger as researching Steel - civac's not the only behemoth out there...

mmjd turned on espionage against me and may be building units, so it looks like my days of playing cavalier with my military could be at an end.

Diplomacy never ceases to amaze in these games.

So mmjd tells me to declare war on ginger. Then he moves 6-8 knights near our border. What sane person is going to take his word and attack ginger? Especially from the guy who broke a NAP? Buddy, if you want to fight ginger so bad, we have open borders. At this point I want to sign up for a diplo game just to spare me these headaches.

False alarm. Turns out mmjd actually was trying to run through my territory to attack civac. Only with 6 knights, which will do nothing against the swarm of drafted jannissaries, but it's the thought that counts. I would think this giant dogpile on ginger/civac would be handing the game to Naufragger, but his tech seems a lot slower than civac's. Is it just the shrine? I don't get why most people's economies have been so poor this game. Mmjd has had pyramids for a hundred turns and he's barely ahead of me. Curious.

Civac completely obliterated Dreylin's forces in the north and now borders his last few cities, the ones I actually wanted to take for myself. I have to emphasize how disappointing it is that Dreylin put all that initial effort into destroying my stack - I really would have signed peace for one or two cities, while Civac was going for the kill from the beginning. I might consider declaring on ginger if he grabs this land too, but only if the dogpile gives me any chance of holding them. (Doesn't help that I am slowed advancing here a turn because I was trying to reroute my units all the way towards mmjd...)

Oh wait... I realized just now that I should have been sending demands to Dreylin asking for the one city I wanted... diplomacy!  duh
