ARGGGH! This fucking map trolled us for the third damn time.

That is another fish NE, NE, E of Volsung. that fish was not visible before the city was settled. we had time to scout with workboat, but neither workboat nor galley could reach that tile since the ice does not count as coastland, so the water is ocean, not coast. We settled here because any spot north of here will have less coast to work as we grow - because of all the damn ice blocks. I don't even think I could have seen that fish if I moved the worker or settle to the spot 1NE of volsung before settling. I literally would have had to just "guess" and hope there was another seafood up there to catch it. damnit, we could have 2 fish instead of one in Volsung
ok, ok. here's the good news: that city would not have silver or either fish in its initial ring, so it would be working a crappy 1-0-2 coast tile for the first 10 turns before it could finally pick up both fish and the silver. the worker would have to return to the mainland, do 3-4 actions, then hop on the galley and come back to hook up the silver. Plus, it would trade 4 coast tiles for 3 ocean tiles and an unworkable ice block. so it would be much slower and would actually produce less commerce before we're able to work specialists. that silver in particular is going to be made use of by gilgamesh and the odyssey almost immediately, so a 10 turn delay might not be worth it anyway. But sigh, it sure would have been a nice national epic spot with 2 fish and nothing better work work except the silver.
anyway, my internet is spotty so im going to log out and play the turn in a bit when its more reliable. I moved one worker to the cottage lewwyn mentioned, one to the forest W of beowulf (covered it with the new spear that was built in gilgamesh that finally made its way down.) I moved the spear and chariot from the gold mine into beowulf (not sure its necessary to cover the gold w/ no workers there, azza can't pillage it in 1 turn, and if he moves onto it we can wipe out his horses with spears). and finally I moved a chariot from beowulf to the aeneid, just in case.
ill post plenty of pictures when I get around to finishing the turn, but in the meantime, look what odysseus found:

there are Mayan borders, yay! I suppose he drafted azza and/or us on Iron working, and is settling up into the jungle a bit. This explains a lot - he did indeed send his scout up through the jungle to find us, while he must have built a warrior to explore south. I suppose if we're able to keep going we'll find spacetyrantxenu before too long. Since Brick hasn't made contact with Serdoa, Brick must be too the east - likely on the "little" portion of the map - he probably has cities on several islands already.
The bad news is it looks like we'll be competing with both Brick and Serdoa for hte eastern peninsula (as well as potentially azza, although I'm less worried about azza). so we can't wait too long capturing hte barb city and settling that area.
we need to consider if we want to take an oppornistic stab at serdoa if we get the chance. my vote is not to bother with pillaging or harassing him, but if we pass by a city and see the city spot, defended by only a warrior or axe, we should take the chance to raze it. serdoa isn't exactly being friendly (refusing maps), is our most likely competitor for MoM, and is going to be a competitor for juicy land to the east, we should take an opportunity to slow him down if we get the chance.
anyway, thats just hypothetical - most likely we won't have such an opportunity and will just try to skim his borders to make it south and make contact with another civ.

Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.
