Are you playing the game to get the highest possible finish, or are you playing the game to play some good civ, making good decisions along the way? This is an issue that rarely gets brought up in these games, but it's one that ultimately controls the way the game gets played. My personal opinion, not that it really matters here, is that playing for ranking is a waste of time because you always get some **** who will play solely to beat up the best player, which makes the entire unbalanced. Also taking into account unbalanced maps and I think it's best just to try and play a good game, make some interesting decisions and improvise. Publically visible games such as this I think should be made as entertaining and as educational as possible.
I agree with you there, I haven't played MP yet but I look on these PitBoss games to learn some tactics and methods for playing these games. I am sure that right now, I would most likely get stomped by even relatively new players, but you've got to start somewhere!
From my perspective, I would like to see some people play 'as noble and true as possible'. I don't always like the civs who just say - I won't win but I'll stop as many others from winning until I'm gone. I think that the problem with this game is the lack of Tech-trading to build up meaningful long-term alliances. I wouldn't mind not winning the game if I played as a noble ally to the winner. Obviously that tactic isn't everyone's cup of tea! Hence why right now I would want to be behind Spulla, to see a battle of alliances rather than 'hey he's winning, lets all gang up on him' without any thought to the consequences of such an action.
