To be quite honest, they've played rather arrogantly trying to double deal with their neighbors and running a skeleton army while making a really obvious move to GNP whore their way to a win.
I think Sullla when he saw how silly his neighbors were and just kind of started playing like he would in SP and optimize his growth like crazy. Nothing wrong with that if you were just playing two human neighbors that you could take in a 2 vs 1. That and he seems to rely more on C&D numbers and figuring out what people are doing than trying to figure out what everyone is trying to do.
As for Speaker, I don't think he's been particularly paying attention to foreign affairs as Sullla has handled all of that. Hence while he's been quick to spot the immediate threats, he hasn't really looked at the big picture quite as much trusting Sullla to do the job.
They'll probably figure it out somewhere along the way to T100 though when they can't get their NAPs renewed and the power graphs start spiking. They'll still probably win just to spite their lackluster metagaming. :neenernee
