Honestly, the concept of "AI Diplo" feels like an unrealistic ideal, at least in such a large game. Either we need to go full diplo (and not ban anything, accepting all the kingmaking that would bring) or go no diplo (or even farther; the completely isolated starts I brought up in the lurker thread wasn't entirely in jest). Anything in-between feels like it's going to lead to bad blood, either because of people playing at the edges (and no one agrees where those edges are as long as "don't be a jerk" is a core rule) or because it will become a lame duck game (which is the natural conclusion of "don't interfere with the leaders).
