Not to start this argument all over again, but how did Sullla know that other teams were noticing and making an issue of Sullla's GNP position?

Because they got told so by their opponents themself (and later during the war by the lurkers too). To quote Athlete from here :

somebody become the winner in the medieval era. Helping Greece to slow

Sullla denied this to be a valid reason for dogpiling them then but seems to have changed his mind in the meantime.
