You know, I would apologize for continuing to thread-jack, but this rules debate has gotten old, I'm not going to
.
Sunrise, as I was writing that last post, I was fully expecting a response from you - thanks for not disappointing! It's really a preference thing though... Actually PBEM4 is the first that's really struggled to get the turns in it seems... The one I'm in (PBEM3) hums along pretty nicely at 1 turn/day. The only time Pitboss is faster really is peacetime, but when you start dealing with turn splits, the timer tends to run all the way down pretty much. This game has been also doing 1 turn/day for quite some time, so I don't see a whole lot of difference in game speed. Of course, if you have players who struggle to play within their window then it's a pain, but that's something that should be sorted out before the game starts.
Also - about the limit on civs problem, I think we've learned from PB3 that lots of civs in a game is a total disaster. To me, around 6 players is the ideal number for a game anyways, so why not go PBEM? You'll have zero rule disputes all game... The turn order balance thing is very minor in comparison to balance issues that come with a turn split, so I don't see that as a problem either. That's not even to say all the connectivity problems that can arise in a PB.
Of course, a No Rules Pitboss might be even better, but then a player who has very limited hours when he can log in is heavily disadvantaged against double moves. That's no problem if you can commit a lot of time to a game like that, but that doesn't sound fun to me. Again, personal preference.

On the other hand with PBEM we've had...one game almost end because players were so mad about the pace, another game loose useful features 50t in, the pace slow down to 1t per week several times, a pretty hard limit on the number of civs in the game, balance issues with turn order...
Sounds like a lot more fun to me!
EDIT: Just so I'm not just posting junk, I do agree with scooter that THIS pitboss game isn't fun right now, but when we launch the No Rules 2 Pitboss Game we'll solve that problem
EDIT 2: When I played in No Rules Pitboss (1) we managed a game at Epic speed with zero reloads due to anything other than server connection issues.
