[SPOILERS] Serdoa goes to war II

T67 + T68 + T69:

I changed my tech-plans. Finished Literature and then finished Music. Got the GA and a GM was born in my cap. Started re-attacking Commist. Decided that attacking them is better then waiting for them to come to me. Anyone wanna make a guess what I am planning to do?

In news from home, we are making 100 bpt at 0%. Break-even at around 40%, which equals around 160-170 raw beakers per turn. Pretty good I think at 240 BC. Will it be enough though? Not sure, depends how my war with Commist works out, if Lewwyn doesn't attack me and if someone actually attacks scooter. Because he is doing a fine job of spreading like crazy. Not sure what the actual city count for him is, but it should be higher then mine. And that is 14. Should be 15 but I got reckless and tried to settle the island near Lewwyn. He had a spear on it, so I killed that with an axe and unloaded my settler (despite my axe being nearly dead after the fight). Lewwyn had a galley with an axe nearby though and killed my axe and took my settler (now a worker). I'll come back to that island (I want 3 of those) but not yet. I do think there are at least 2 more unsettled out there and nearby myself, so I can take them as well and leave Lewwyn alone. Thats probably the smarter move.

Anyhow, I am getting Calendar (for even bigger cities) next turn and Monarchy + Feudalism shouldn't take more then 5-6 turns afterwards I'd guess. Maybe even less if I keep increasing my science rate.

Oh, and I will have marble online in 3 turns. 4 chops should finish TGLib quite easily.

Catapults + Elephants + a longbow here and there to prevent spearman attacks? maybe Catas + Phants + Axes?

Close Ichabod, but no. I actually don't want to attack him for real. I just don't want him to send Cataphracts my way. And what is needed for cataphracts (and X-Bows imo as well)? Thats right, Iron! So, we first heal-promoted our GG-WE* to C3 (from C2, Amphibious) and attacked at 71% odds. Won that, the CR2-axe then wiped the floor with Commists GG-Formation-warrior. So I could

no, not raze it. I took it. It is mine now! My precious lol I unloaded another WE and an archer into the city, making it defended by an Archer, Axe, WE as of now. Another 3 archers will join next turn as well as my GG-WE. Oh, and I did something else, someone can spot it here?

Yeah, thats right, thats my GA. He will detonate next turn and if I calculated not to much wrong, I should be able to take Commists Iron in a few turns. I'll try to get it pillaged before, just to be save, but he hasn't gotten his GE yet and again, if I am not too wrong, the GE shouldn't bulb all of Guilds anyway, so I should have a few turns left before he could start building Cataphracts.

Of course I will go on and ship troops into this city, there is already another WE and archer built and I will try to reach now Feudalism soon for LBs as well. Just had to grab Calendar first this turn for some more happy. And also my marble should come online soon if Brian isn't interrupting me with his chariot and spear nearby. That should give me a good shot at MoM, and certainly will have me build HE as well as NE soon.

Lastly, back to my GA-plan. I know that is not the smart move here. I will aggrevate Commist and they will come for me with all they have. I can't be sure if they wouldn't have done so anyway, but still, the smart move would probably have been to wait and just tech along. I'd probably be able to reach Muskets before they have enough Cataphracts. And I need just a little bit over half their numbers in LBs/Muskets to be pretty save in my hill cities. But quite honestly, isn't it much more fun for you lurkers (and me btw) to do such a completely crazy plan like the one I try to pull off here? IT IS! lol

* He was called Hernan Cortez, but I renamed him so that he only shows up as War-Elephant in the combat-logs, making it look like I simply used a standard WE. Felt that is better then letting Commist know that I feel this attack is so important that I risk to lose my GG. Of course, looking at the combat-odds and the potential promotions necessary for it should tell you that it has to be the GG - but who is really looking at those?

Only the dumbest things I can think of lol First I moved from my starting spot to another plains hill, then I lost my scout to a lion and finally I am building warriors instead other, more relevant stuff. Oh, and my tech-path is pretty weird as well. I think I'm doing good! smoke

Well, seriously though, I am not investing much time at all in PBEM34 yet and therefore even if there is a skill-disparity (and neither Zero nor AT played here before, so might very well be up to your or mackotis level) it should not show itself.

It was 42% after detonating the bomb, 45% when I ended turn. I guess his culture should be applied when he ends turn, so that should go down to 43 or 44% probably. If I am right I am putting 63 culture every turn in the tile, while he should at most put ~40 into it. So, I will need some more turns, but I should get that tile soon. Maybe till T75? I had expected to get the tile this turn already tbh. At least if the explanation on CFC is also correct for quick speed. That is: a GA-bomb is applied in 20 shares of equal value. Though those values are NOT applied to the tiles itself, the bonus values for cultural expansion are. This means: If you go over a cultural expansion value, the old cultural expansion is getting 20 bonus points per turn. So basically if your city expands borders the first time and is producing 1cpt, then the inital 8 tiles will receive now every turn 21 culture, while the second ring tiles will receive 1. If you have another expansion, the bonus values in the first ring go up to 40 while the second ring receives 20. And so on for every cultural expansion.

Applied to the situation at hand, iron being second ring tile and the shares are 134 culture (2680 / 20) each:

S1 = 0 (20?); not sure how much really, 134 would be third ring (0,5,50) but will it apply the bonus in the same turn as well?
S2: 20 (40?); same as before, because now with 268 culture we are at fourth ring (0,5,50,250)
S3: 40
S4-S18: each 40
S19: 40 (60?); as described before, because we have another culture expansion here
S20: 60

Total: min 760, max 820

Now for Commist, they should have got the tile into their culture by T22, putting in 2 culture per turn from the palace. Thats 49 turns till now, so 98 culture total. On top of that they had Oracle since I think T41, thats another 8 culture per turn for 29 turns, so 232 or a total of 330. Now, at T58 around their capital borders should have expanded, putting another 20 cpt into that tile. Thats 12 turns, making it 240 or a total of 570. Lastly, Oracle culture should be doubled since 10 turns for being in existence since more then 1000 years. Thats another 80 culture. Total of 650.

Even if those numbers are slightly off for Commist, I still should have more culture in the tile that they have. Anyone can explain that to me? What did I calculate wrong?

I think on quick speed the bomb only does 13 rounds of culture instead of 20. Not sure though.

Well, would make sense ... somehow. If thats the case I might very well need much more time to take it then I suspected. Maybe I do have to pillage it after all? Uh, ok, I airlift some catapults over there as well.

Seems like with 7 fewer rounds you'd lose like 280 culture and probably 20 more because you don't reach the last ring until the last culture round. Therefore my best guess is you got 520 culture on that tile. Which does seem congruent with your eot culture raising you 3%. If your estimate of Commodist's culture is correct they are getting 2/3 as much culture as you every turn so you are increasing your share by 1%/turn relative to current levels and should take about 6-10 turns to overtake him.
