[spoilers]Commodore likes it restrictive; Galling DuGaulle of the Gauls

All the news of Gaul at the moment centers around our lake. The last villainous spear was crushed, paving the way for settlement of the Second Island (shot on replay, I held the extra axes in reserve the first time naturally).

Good thing too, because the now three-trireme-strong villainous navy is at last on the move. I whipped in a third trireme myself, but it's going to continue to be a pitched battle in the area for quite some time. At least Megatron is working on ships, not forge/Colossus.

Speaking of that...

It'll take some time, alas. I did notice something very interesting south. Lookie lookie where Boldly put his MoM. That's not going to stand at all, sir, nossir. Border cities that I can 2-turn with critical wonders? Does he know me at all?

My EP load on him keeps going up, I'm bringing courthouses online now. I whipped in a pair this turn that improved my gpt by 10, yeesh. Dogmatix will continue to learn and grow here, and we'll next ad a library for cultures.

All the news there is now, let's see what's next!

Let's focus on a couple of little cities showing why we love Ind. First, we have Getafix. I need more triremes in the water, so I could swap now to one. I'd fill two turns to 16/33, then whip. But because we have cheap forges, it's the same amount of time to finish it this turn. Next turn, it's 10/33, and then I can whip, because it's 25/pop.

Fullyautomatix, with other traits, would next be doing its normal culture-pushing stuff in a little wedge position like this. However, I'm going to make a forge first. Those 40 hammers will be paid back in 160 hammers run through...or the cost of a library, monument, and courthouse...which are the next three buildings built (unless we need walls, naturally).

Boldly and I are mutually antagonizing each other. I've got a few nastily exposed units myself, but darned if I'm not going to extract my pound of flesh too. Boldly's worker was here probably trying to prepare the cost for a second city; it's important in this battle for the sea to be able to match ports with the other guy.

So, here we are. The stack I show here checking odds (no, I didn't take that much of a risk) has a galley and three triremes, against the same +1 backing trireme from Boldly. But wait! Didn't I expose my spare galley where he kill it with impunity?

Nope. Why not?

Bloodly, bloody interim there. Boldly lost a 90% shot at my chariot, but then slaughtered my ships, losing only one trireme (and leaving my victor .1/2) and killing most of my fleet. My riven trireme remaining is covered my by only unhurt vessel, a galley, but his own galley stops me from retaliation.

Evil At least retaliation he realizes can occur. Cacophonix founds, and then I look deeply in askance at the redlined trireme in the west. I clean up and evacuate my 8xp chariot. Now Boldly can definitely kill the still-healthy galley with his own plus his triremes, but hopefully not without incurring more losses.

The nice other thing is that battle took place in my GW-boosted territory. Now I need another 5GG points, and I can float some real monsters in this pond. The Battle for Lake Commodore is far from over, my friends. I'm halfway considering an Optics push next.

And with that, the turn draws to a close, another trireme completing. Here's Gaul, happily working on seven cities, with two of them on islands for IC-TRs. Aesthetics also just completed, and the Literature push next will set me for wonders to chase for a while.

Wonders and ships, man. That's my PBEM 44.

It's 20x20, the map is tiny as you can see from the military adviser. I'm tops or near it in cities, and own a quarter of the world. We play for keeps here in Tinyworld.

So how sweet is this? Galley bit it, but not before sinking not one but two redlined triremes, and baring something weird I think I'll be holing Mr. Victorious next turn. Greatest General in history was born because of it, too. You'll see at the bottom of the screen workers trying to prep for a new port down there, I'm sure Boldly wants more ships in the water ASAP. Eternal war at sea: It is my burden.

Next on the agenda: LIT! One turn, break-even. Also, if you'll notice, I'm now able to see both Boldly and Sian's researches. One is scary, meaning incoming crossbows soon. The other is annoying, meaning Paya is at risk if I dog it. If I can ever build infra in the southern half of the empire, I'll make 'em worry.

Could also just go Mono->Monarch->Civil Service right now, and triple revolt upon the Music artist. Humsies.

Enough of that nonsense. I'm here to own a sea and make musketeers. Machinery->Monarchy->Feudalism->Guilds->Gunpowder. And as for the inner sea, optics if I must, otherwise, triremes from all the island ports. I'm building the Paya, so with luck I can be in Theocracy/Vassalage for 2-promo ships and everything else.

I merged Belisarius with a pair of triremes for some right proper monsters; try winning fights now Mr. Nowhere.

Well, okay, he is winning fights, just not in the waters. Tunak Tunak got et, and Sian's score has been dropping like a rock in battling the boys in green, which is good. Slowcheetah just got a prophet and fired a golden age, which is...odd.

Fullyautomatix now is the proud owner of a pair of floodplain cottages too (borders popped after shot taken). Whipping in Library, then a brace of crossbows, should help the city keep those new little lovelies. I'm considering the Heroic Epic here too just for kicks and giggles.

Dr. No was settled upon the inner sea, another ship-pumping port to steal my seafood. I'm going to be basically fighting these battles until Boldly wins the game by dominating Sian and Slow. Still, I made my bed, I'll fight bloody wars in it.

Might as well make it just a bit appealing, though. Meet Getafix. Getafix is making a big bronze guy. This will take seven turns once Getafix reaches the ripe old size of two. This ought to help in the whole culture-battle-for-sea bit, as well as making the lake the Asterix, Obelix, and Dogmatix hang around exactly 50% better.

We're back lads, and it's a fine day.

So, in the world today, we have Sian getting hammered by Boldly, Slowcheetah firing a golden age in an attempt to claw back into the game, and mysterious non-mechanics-MP-T-Hawk-needed-weirdness. But you didn't come here for that. If your in this thread, you're going to be hearing about Lake Commodore: Now cleansed of Incan Triremes!

Okay, I'll make mild mention of the shoreline fighting, unless he's got reinforcements or enough cash to upgrade to crossbows, the two archers in Dr. No are toast next turn. Let's keep grinding this!

Sadly, he reinforced Monty Burns (garrison highlighted), so no opportunistic chariot raze. frown

No crossbow upgrades in Dr. No, so our noble charioteers crossed the river to attack the city...

Chariot vs. CG1 archer (7%/10%): LOSS
Axe vs. archer (16%): WIN 5xp!
Embarked spear vs. .7/3 CG1 archer (98%): WIN 2xp!

With that uncomfortable stain removed, I can relax enough to rush in a little infra in the islands. Cacophonix gets a granary next, and Unhygenix gets a forge in preparation for some Moai Stones.

I am given to understand that other builds happen in other places in Gaul, but seriously, who cares? This land up here exists entirely to support Lake Commodore.

I guess the demographics show I'm doing pretty okay, although what they don't show is the critical "I have a Combat 4 trireme and you don't have any, neenernee" stat.

Anything not building the Great Library, Paya, or Colossus next turn works on crossbows.
