Hey, this is a bit of a bother, but I wonder if there's any objections to me dedlurking Dreylin this game? I honestly forgot he was in it until recently, so I've read all the spoilered posts so far.

With particular regard to the map - although I've posted in the thread, that was solely for the purpose of a) linking a post about how to edit the game options and b) mentioning my general thoughts on the distribution of late game strategic resources. I haven't looked at any pictures or files of potential maps, and Kragroth hasn't described the map he's chosen in any way. IMO I have no additional information on how this map is composed.

And yeah I've read the opening player posts that have been posted thus far.

There's been dissent in the past on people doing this, even when people publically agreed, so if anyone has any objection than either PM me or post in this thread, and I won't. I can entirely understand people having concerns out of me dedlurking a rival, and I don't want me causing any trouble or disconcertion.

Picks sent to Kragroth via email.

Q, I have no trouble with you dedlurking Dreylin if you have no clue of the map at all.

No objection to Q dedlurking Dreylin.

Well, as long as you don't reveal the master plan I painstakingly detailed step by step in my opening post, of course I have no objection.

I have no master plan.

Q, that's fine by me as well.

Oooo, now I've got a ded, I guess I'd better go create a spoiler thread!

Have a nice, concise changelog.

I've completed the first runthrough of map changes. I would really appreciate a map checker for a second look.

Mapmaking Philosophy / Decisions

1. I rerolled maps until I found a map where I thought everyone had a decent start (i.e. at least 1 grain resource) where my first initial instinct for the majority of the civs was positive (the more positive the better).
2. I added lairs and unique improvements via the automatic map generator after approving a map.
3. I only want to affect the map beyond original choices as little as possible. I don't want to pick winners and losers.
4. In placing improvements, I use a Random Number Generator in the following fashion:
A. Left (1) or Right (2)
B. 1-12
C. Up (1) or Down (2)
D. 1-12

If I get an invalid square, I roll again

4. Every civ has at least 2 adjacent civilizations (by land) to it up to 4.
5. Every adjacent civ is at least 15 squares away to a maximum of 25 squares away by land travel from starting position to starting position.
6. Every civ has at least 1 horse, 1 copper, 1 deer, 1 pig, and 3 mana nodes within 12 walking tiles from the starting position.

Just a question:

Should players be guaranteed at least commerce resource (+2 commerce or more) from Calendar, Crafting, or Mining within a certain number of tiles from the starting position?

I think that if one player has it within reach of a second city (say, 6 tiles?), make sure everyone does. Otherwise no need to add it if it doesn't appear.
