PB30 Setup Thread

Players, we've started doing rankings, so now's your golden chance for a twist on the usual pitboss pre-game player reviews: talk up how great your opponents are and how much you suck to try biasing the rankings! lol

Different levels for different players? Does that just affect tech costs and health cap? I'd rather not - I was hoping the handicaps would be more visible. We could put it up for a vote though:

- b5. Different difficulties: No

Adjusting by difficulty level sounds like an interesting experiment but a pretty bad idea if you guys want an enjoyable game. You won't even be playing by the same rules at that point, which makes interpreting the results of the contest much less relevant. Unequal land is one thing, playing the hand you're dealt and all that. Unequal rules would completely skew the contest because I suspect the economic advantages given to someone on a lower difficulty level would exceed the impact of any map based differences between the starts. There's a big difference in available happy/health caps, maintenance costs, tech costs, etc between different difficulty levels. Even if you set one player to, say, prince and the others to monarch, you're drastically changing the value of leader traits (ex: ORG is either junk or the top trait, entirely dependent on your difficulty level). I think you could have fun with setting varying difficulty levels, as long as you weren't trying to run a competitive game, which seems to be the goal here even with the proposed unique setup.

Played: Pitboss 18 - Kublai Khan of Germany Somalia | Pitboss 11 - De Gaulle of Byzantium | Pitboss 8 - Churchill of Portugal | PB7 - Mao of Native America | PBEM29 Greens - Mao of Babylon

OK, here are my votes (finally figured out where to post them smile ) :

a. Most important is leader/civ pick style (random three combos for each player)

- b. Then it's how the lurkers set the handicaps:
- b1. Lushness of capital (no)
- b2. Nearby luxuries (yes)
- b3. Space (yes)
- b4. Neighbours (yes)
(edit: - b5. Different difficulty levels for different players (no))

- c. Events (on)
- d. Huts (off)
- e. Speed (quick)
- f. Difficulty (emperor)
- g. Barbs (on)
- h. See starts before picking (yes)

- i. Version (BTS) BTS wins for compatibility.

Then if BTS wins:
- j. Scout start (yes)
- k. Bans: Nukes, War Elephants (except Khmer), Corps, SoZ, Blockades, Diplo Victory (reject)
- l. Great Lighthouse (on)
- m. Espionage (on)

Ok I think I should be moved down a handicap just for this thought process... I was here thinking that space meant for space race like where the space elevator could be built and proximity of aluminium. Did not realise till just now it meant general expansion room. That is an epicly stupid mistake to make!

Only TheWanabe left to vote, but we're already decided (or he can only tie the vote, so I'm calling that decided mischief ):

- a. leader/civ pick style Snake 2 (OH, Dantski) Lurkers select 3 6 (Molach, Gavagai, Alhazard, Ipecac, REM)
- b1. Lushness of capital (yes/no) Yes 7 no 1 (2metra)
- b2. Nearby luxuries (yes/no) Yes 8
- b3. Space (yes/no) Yes 8
- b4. Neighbours (yes/no) Yes 8
- b5. Different difficulties (yes/no) No 4
- c. Events (off/on) Off 5 on 2 (Gavagai, 2metra)
- d. Huts (off/on) Off 6 on 1 (Gavagai)
- e. Speed (normal/fast) Normal 3 (OH, Gavagai, REM), quick 2 (Alhazard, 2metra)
- f. Difficulty (mapmaker's decision/prince/monarch/emperor) Mapmaker 5 Emperor 1 (2metra)
- h. See starts before picking (yes/no) Yes 4 (OH, Gavagai, Alhazard), no 3 (Dantski, Ipecac, REM)
- i. Version (BTS/RTR 2.7.x/RTR 3.0.x/TOW) BTS wins for compatibility. BTS 6
- j. Scout start (yes/no) Yes 6
- k. Bans: Nukes, War Elephants (except Khmer), Corps, SoZ, Blockades, Diplo Victory (accept/reject) corps banned 2 (Dantski, Ipecac), corps not banned 2 (Gavagai, Alhazard) SoZ banned 3 (OH, Gavagai, Ipecac) SoZ unbanned 1 (Alhazard) all other bans 4 no bans 2 (REM, 2metra) (I think this means they're all banned except Corps)
- l. Great Lighthouse (mapmaker's decision/on/off) Mapmaker 3 (OH, Alhazard, REM), NO! DEFY RESOLUTION! 1 (Ipecac) on 1 (2metra) (Lets hope the mapmaker agrees with Ipecac...)
- m. Espionage (off/on but no spies - settle or start golden age with a Great Spy if you get one/on but no missions/on) on but no spies 4 (OH, Dantski, Alhazard, Ipecac), Full 3 (Gavagai, REM)

So TheWanabe you need to decide on:
- g. Barbs (off/on/raging) On 3 (OH, Gavagai, 2metra), off 3 (Alhazard, Ipecac, REM)

Anyone wants to check my working that'd be nice.

SoZ ban currently tied, if wannabe wants SoZ then that would win. Otherwise agree
