Certainly lots of anti-synergy with that approach. Fun to watch, with useful (to me, at least) commentary. Nothing new to the D1 vets, but for new players like me it is very entertaining. He also talked about (and showed) the bible when he looked up some monster stats.

He is very prolific. I rather enjoy his vids.

More classic Diablo stream from Sullla with this week's AI Survivor game, so I was inspired to play some more D1 myself. I will be continuing my lightning sorcie in D2, just needed a change of pace for a bit.
I created a warrior (in multi-player this time ) and started bludgeoning and slashing monsters. Cleared the first two levels (although I have left the Butcher alone for now) and started the third. Magic books are dropping for some reason, found four already. A shield of the mind (+9 magic) allowed me to read the healing book, very helpful. Sold the telekenesis books to buy some better armor, I won't have magic at that level for a long long time.
D1 and D2 are different in a lot of ways, but both are fun.

Rotting Corpse boss Gore Tongue dropped Leather Armor of Aut, +5 strength and +5 dexterity with -5 magic, indestructible. A healing spell and then gear swapping to the new armor left my warrior with negative mana. Had not seen that before, or realized it was even possible. Well, not like he was doing much with magic anyway.
I also ran into King Leoric. Opened a door to a middling-sized room, and found it packed with about a dozen skeleton archers who all started shooting at me. Behind them was Leoric, but he could not advance through his own minions. With all the arrows flying, I just closed the door and left him there. His own minions trapped him better than any portal parking could have.
On downward to the Caracombs....

Any suggestions for dealing with Black Death zombies? Other than not getting anywhere near them?

Well, you can quit out and start a new game to get a different monster spawn... which I guess is just the more extreme version of not getting anywhere near them.

It amazes me that anyone thought including such a monster in the game was a good idea.

Yeah playing a warrior in d1 is like playing a completely seperate difficulty sometimes.

My warrior avoided (left the dungeon and rerolled) the Black Death threat, and got better draws on the next few levels. He is now down to level 7 of the catacombs, and just killed Gorestone, the Night Clan archer boss and his pack. What a hassle those guys were, having to chase them down one by one and pin them to a wall or corner to kill them. And of course getting shot full of arrows all the while. Playing a rogue previously I had not fully appreciated how much of a pain in the neck ranged attackers can be for a warrior.
On the positive side, Gorestone dropped a bastard sword of skill with a +14 dexterity bonus. Very nice upgrade over the blade of the stars my warrior had been using.

For a melee warrior, one of the best spells to use is Teleport, particularly against witches in the hell levels that will be running away from you constantly. There's also Stone Curse.
For the weapon, you want a bastard sword ideally with damage and speed modifiers, King's Sword of Haste is the best of its breed. For a warrior, it's common to go shopping at Griswold repeatedly until you find something decent along those lines.
