I'm trying to avoid commenting directly on anything you're writing since it would most certainly be inflammatory to do so, but as for someone, anyone playing on in my place. lol

Here's your quest, should you choose to accept it:

Your quest, should you choose to accept it Wrote:You have been in a staring contest with a lion for hours. Finally the lion has had enough and is going to eat you. You will most certainly die. You slowly back away as the lion approaches, hoping it will let you live, and slip off momentarily into the forest, hoping to get away. While in the forest you mercilessly attack and kill three cubs of an angry bear. The bear, enraged, remembers you from when you once got in a fight with it. At the time the bear had only partially mauled you. Now the bear wants nothing more than to kill you before the lion does so it can avenge its slain offspring.

Your quest is to survive the bear's counterattack and simultaneously not be eaten by the lion.

Any applicants? popcorn

I do agree concession needs to be handled differently in the future. One someone floats it publicly, that pretty much kills the game normally. I think it definitely sapped the enthusiasm out of most players once we all started thinking about the next game. Hopefully we can learn from this for future games.

It only killed the game in so much as it let anyone know they weren't the only one who saw the pink elephant standing in the room. In a game where the players can't really talk how else is that supposed to happen? Sure, if we had a game admin we could send in a concession vote anonymously at any time and maybe when the admin has a majority, plurality, whatever of people who believe it's over, maybe then they announce it or something. But even though I kept my effort up and didn't mind playing I've known for a while (and still believe until proven otherwise) the outcome is not in doubt. So why keep playing on? Offering concession like we did still makes more sense to me. Rather than have half the players not mind playing the turns, why not let them go play in another game they can have more fun with? Or take a break? Or whatever else other than keep on muddling through. My neurotic inability to let this game go had me keep wasting hours of time playing it long past the point of reason. But it took me being away from the game for most of a week to realize it. It's just time.

Anyway...yeah, whatever the mechanism is in the future we can do concession a better way than this so we don't unfairly influence the game or cause resentment among any players not yet ready to concede.

It seems no one is actively looking for replacements. I did a mental exersice concerning duel like environment and I can guarantee that Bigger can't get 3 legendary cities in any reasonable time frame. Getting several invested players to run the show for unintrested ones isn't gonna happen, so on my behalf this game is over. I'll start reading spoiler threads tomorrow. I don't belive Bigger could have pulled out the culture win even in a case of having full roster of invested players. Why would other players help them to win? Their win condition was gonna come way sooner than anything I could reach so everyone should be targeting them not me. Naturally other nations would probably be best served watching in the sidelines and hope that my big investement on taking them down would open up them opportunities. Nevertheless everyone is free to try to convince me otherwise.

I think I should be allowed to be convinced I can't win. that might only take 10-15 turns.

I've been thinking, I really reacted in anger yesterday, so i need to apologize to everyone. Especially Serdoa and Commodore.

nonethless, I would like to take you up on your offer to turn it into a duel. I think, objectively, that it is colossally unfair for a winner to be declared when there is still a civ left that thinks it can win. whether that belief is grounded inr eality or not is irrelevant.
whoever isn't interested in finishing can turn their civ over to an AI. I think anybody other than xenu or scooter could probably easily get a sub from the greens queue, but whatever, that doesnt matter.

We can retire to AI, that's fine, and even take them over to sign peace if one of those mad little buggers tries to DoW you guys.
