[PB25-SPOILERS] The Lunacy of the Reign of HAK Continues

Oh I was just talking fast food. Bo Jangles does not do Nashville hot chicken. Best places are Pepperfire or Hattie Bs, and I don't know of any way to get it outside of going to Nashville.

Or Whataburger. One of the few benefits of living in Texas.

So I just logged in for playing the turn and saw that Commodore sunk a galley of mine...and I'm like wait, where was there a galley that he could have sunk.....
Only to realize that it was the Galley with a Chariot on it that I had in one of Donovan's ports. Totally not realizing that Commodore could sail his Caravel into that port to sink my galley. Doh! Guess I've learned something new. frown

So because of this whole thing over at the Gavagai front, I haven't had time to take screenshots of the world for the main update. And my head is starting to hurt from staring at the two fronts trying to decide what to do.

First, had horrible RNG luck to take the city and losing 5 HAs and needing 4 to wound the Pikes by withdrawing. So 11 HAs to take the city...and also accidentally moved an extra one down there that could have been used to attack his stack (even though we kinda already decided not to do that). But I do think I may run a few more SIMs just to see. I do have a Knight & HA in Popeyes that can hit it from across the river.

For the discussion of what we need to do on the Commodore front (and to decide what to do with some of these Knights that cities on the mainland just finished)...here are his main stacks near me:

Here's the demo's after I took the city, but before I drafted 3 more Macemen:

And I noticed Commodore is researching Chemistry now so I looked at the tech tree. He hasn't finished Liberalism yet....so to me this looks like he wants to Lib Steel to get Canons to use against me.

So even if I succeed against Gavagai, I don't think there is anything I can do to stave off an assault of Canons & Muskets. So once he starts charging with those, I have a feeling the game will be truly over. This alone makes me very tempted to attack Gavagai's stack this turn to get some enjoyment out of it before Commodore steamrolls me. smile
We've done tons of planning and a good number of SIMs....so it would be a lot of lost effort if I do end up essentially losing my entire stack against Gav. But part a big part of this game is to have fun. And if Gavagai runs away with his stack, and stick it inside a city (such as Wendys) that creates a situation twice as bad for me to attack against.....I'd rather do the attack now before I lose the chance.

Then again....Comm is 4 turns from Chemistry, and then another turn for the Lib for Steel. And then probably a turn of upgrading Catapults to Canons. So maybe I have at least 6T before he rolls up against Hungry. That does appear to be the city he is targeting.

Anyway, I'll try to update the SIM right now even though I'm getting tired. Then a few runs and chatting with Mindy in the morning where I'll get scolded for thinking about attacking Gav's stack when we'd likely fail. banghead rolf

So I'm somewhat awake and will start running the sim of attacking his stack a few more times and actually record some details. I ran it last night just before I went to bed a few times, but didn't actually list the details of what happened. Only that 2 out of 3 times I was somewhat happy with the results.
Attached is the updated sim after I gave the stuff all the appropriate promotions after analyzing stuff as best I can. Took awhile just to do that part.

So this morning got busy after I finished the turn and I forgot to post some of the screenshots I took.
First up were the two new diplo messages from Tasunke:

Obviously some messages of trying to get me to pay him to attack Gavagai. Well, even if I wanted to I just can't. We absolutely need every bit of gold we can muster for tech and upgrades.

Next two I took were to show the gold in the treasury for Gav & Comm:

Basically this shows that even though Gav is theoretically 4T from Guilds, he has not gold to keep researching it. I'm sure when he logged in this past turn he had to switch to 0% research in order to start accumulating gold again.
And Commodore, as we saw with him sending his Great Merchant towards Gavagai lands....he did that mission that got him a buttload of gold. So he'll be researching straight on the path to Cannons. 4T to Chemistry, 1T for Liberalism...and BOOM! Next turn after that are mass upgrades of Catapults to Cannons (while building more).

The game is basically over IMHO. This war with Gavagai at this point is just for the fun of it until Commodore rolls his Cannons & Muskets through Hungry and into Sleepy. Once he takes those two cities, I'll have to put forth my agreement to concede to him. Then it's just the wait for Donovan & Tasunke to state the same. I'm sure retep and Gavagai have already stated as such in their threads. retep already basically said it publicly if I recall. Anyway....time for me to log in for this turn and do an actual turn report. Hopefully all the wine I just drank won't hurt my focus for giving you guys a good report of whatever Gavagai did to me.

Oh, right that part. This past turn both myself & Mindy each ran multiple SIMs of different types. We both ran at least 3 SIMs each of us attacking Gavagai's stack where he had it on the grass. In all but one, we basically lost every decent unit and he still had quite a lot left. And there would still be his Numids from Bouncy and most of his semi-healthy Catapults that could then react. Since if we attacked the stack, we wouldn't be able to protect the newly conquered FiveGuys. So even if he didn't hit back at our stack, he'd be able to send just a couple Numids back down to FG to re-take/raze it.
We also ran some SIMs of us putting the stack into FG and him attacking it (via sending everything through the Forest 1W of FG) and that also didn't look good, but at this point we really didn't have many options. So that's what I did. I moved everything into FG. Time to see what he did to the stack of units in there....

First an update of him attacking me. Definitely going to have to take time to consider stuff, but I'm 99% sure that I'll just be moving a few more units into the city and not doing anything against him. As much as I'd love to be able to throw my catapults at him and hit him with whatever I have remaining before he can give his units promotions and heal them further....I highly doubt it's going to be possible. The big difficulty will be that there will be no way to SIM this out. Since there is no way I know of to create our stacks of damaged units to test the attack before I make it.

I killed 20 of his 21 Catapults & 1 CB on the defense, but I lost 5 LB, 2 WE, 7 HA, 1 Knight, & 6 Catapults. So 21 units in total for losses on each side, though his were basically all catapults.

I'll think more on all of this later, but for now going to go examine the rest of the state of my empire and give the world update if I can before bed. Since I'm 99% sure I'm just going to promote stuff that survived, fortify what's in the city, and move more stuff into it.....I might be able to finish the turn tonight. But we'll see.

And.....as I start the review....as I feared......

In comes Commodore. And just when I had moved a couple of those new Knights towards Gavagai just to the point where they are not in range of moving into Hungry this turn.
And I was also really hoping for Hungry to produce a Great Artist, part of the reason I was running an obscene amount of Artist specialists....and I get the minute drop of a Merchant. Grrr. frown

So yep, this will likely be game over for me momentarily. I'll be able to draft a Musket out of both Hungry and Sleepy to have 2 additional muskets inside Hungry. But that won't stop that stack of his from crushing everything I have there and taking the city. And then there is absolutely nothing I have available to keep him from continuing on to Sleepy. At which point my entire empire would crumble to him. This risk of sending things towards Gavagai was certainly a bad one. I somehow knew I should not have sent all those catapults away from the Commodore borders. And now I'm going to pay for it. And all because of fucking damn Tasunke making that peace deal. If he hadn't done that, Commodore wouldn't be able to make this push yet. And my catapults and other stuff were already out of position when that peace happened. So his making peace with Commodore basically cost us all the game. If only he had kept pressing with his Galleons, we'd have had a chance to do something different.
