Probably the nudge to accept came from Donovan taking two of his cities. But he may have been willing to accept it even if Donovan didn't take those cities. In either case, we now have Wendy's and Peace. Which also means, when Gav logs out I can log back in and review cities to fix tiles for the ones that were getting hammered by WW. Or does that not go away instantly?

Darnit. Retep played too quickly. I didn't get a chance to log back in before he rolled the turn. frown Now gotta wait for Commodore before I can go see what's going on.

I would imagine that WW would reset after the turn flip.

That was Donnovan taking 2 cities? And then Retep for 1 city. And Tasunke's also going to join the party. Well we're going to have to keep drafting to see what comes of it all 10T from now. Gavagai will probably be able to hold or retake the cities now that he's got peace with us. Well,...that's what he gets for DOW'ing us. It's all his fault.

Ok, so if we hold the MC front we're at 27 cities to MC's 20. So we're not completely out of this game, although Tasunke and Donnovan are catching up.

We can resettle Taco Bell now as well as the city south of Wendy's. And then south of that again. We need this region to be self sufficient as soon as possible. Last 2 would be Bedazzled if we can hold it and finally that 3 SE island city. If we get Representation, that city is profitable at size 1. We'll need to station some navy over that way soon as well.

Could you please do me a favour? Can we go back to "Thebes" and "McDonalds".

I think that MC will offer peace. Attacking us while we draft and the others expand is probably not the best forumla to win the game.

[EDIT]
Current: McDonalds, Popeyes, RollinEyes, Bouncy, FiveGuys, Wendy's, Confused
Plant: Taco Bell, S of Wendys, Iceball S-S of Wendys (are there 2 city sites there?,...old map). So that'll be 10 cities in the region. Not equal to our original ambition, but at some point we might be able to get away with calling this a success. Now we just need to survive and contain MC,...

Yes, Don took 2 and retep took 1 and I know Tas is in position to take Dunkin Donuts so I expect that to fall this turn.

So yeah....where and when to find cities to build settlers. That will be the big question. I guess I will just have to have Wendy's be the one pumping out Settlers since I can't afford to have any of the mainland cities spend time doing that. Popeyes will also have to build Settlers. No Globe Theater anytime soon if that's the case.

I highly doubt Commodore will offer peace. He needs to hit me with Cannons before I get to Cuirs.

Sure. I guess. We need to get the Theatres built anyway.

Wendy's looks like a draftable location? So get to draft size and then build the settler I think.

Confused is a candidate too once it hits draftable size. We don't have any units in that city so S7 is important.

Are we at risk for losing Alexandria and Thebes? In general we should draft early in order to build up the fortify. LBs to Thebes and Muskets to Alex. This is pending the outcome of our chokepoint of course.

Same applies to the southern island. Don't wait until MC's units are on our land. 3XP gets his muskets Pinch so we'll need to offset that with fortify.

Not sure about this one. MC made us feel threatened while we needed more troops on both sides. Now that we've signed peace and given up thoughts of expansion in GavagaiLand,...I think that we should have enough military to hold back MC even with cannons. Those things cost 100H, twice that of a catapult. Our strategy will have to be to throw enough cheap garbage into the cities that it'll absorb the collateral.

Muskets on hills with full fortify will have coin-flip odds against a Pinch-D1 musket even after 2 splashes of collateral. So his tech advantage is significant but might not be overwhelming.

Cities that should get Theatres: Popeyes, Hungry, Sore, Burning Spears (rice tile), Wendy's,...2 more I guess.

Rolling Eyes could also use one for the rice tile. Alternatively Rollin Eyes and Burning Spears could work artists.

So Commodore actually attacked....

He lost all but one Catapult, and killed a lot of my units.
This is what is left on both sides as of right now:

Mine have a bit of a beef from adding more units this turn. Also I used my GG in a way that I hope was worthwhile. I moved 1 Horse Archer (the one with Pinch) and 3 Muskets (2 of them being ones damaged in the fighting) south of Hungry and attached the GG to the HA. I then moved all 4 units back into Hungry, promoted the Muskets with CG2, gave the HA C2 and then used the free upgrade to Knight.
Also moved in 2 Swords, 2 Maces, 1 Catapult, and another Musket from Sleepy.

Here are the Demos & Graphs & Queue for the turn:

I took another look at what the Spy in Dragon Herdsmen can get and the cost....and the cost for the two techs I can get went way down. Still no reason to get either of them though. So I'll just keep pumping EPs into Commodore to see if Banking shows up at any point.

Over in the west got a few decisions to make and that's why I haven't ended turn.

The movement of units from FG to Wendy's was simply started. All the units in Five Guys still have movement, so they can move either west to Wendy's or east to go back across the channel towards Commodore.

This image here just to show the 3 cities Gavagai lost to Donovan & retep and where he has moved his stack to.

Need to decide what to do with the units I have out there. Do I just fortify them all in the border cities, or do I start sending some of them back east to help fight off Commodore. I'm leaning towards sending them back east. I've already loaded 2 Knights and my Super-healer Chariot onto Galleys to send them back across the channel next turn. Tempted to send a bunch of the catapults back as well. At this point, I'm not sure I'm concerned with Gavagai somehow recovering from his newest invasions to them come back at me again. Though if any of them make peace with him after just these few conquests, then I will certainly need to leave my army here. I can still move the Catapults back towards Popeyes this turn at least, I think. It'll be a couple turns before they could go back across the water, so that'll give time to see if the new civs at war with Gavagai keep it up or sign a quick peace.
Anyway, that's the report for now. I haven't had time to fully analyze Commodore's attack yet, but it looks like it went ok for me. I didn't lose the city at least, and it doesn't look like I will lose it next turn either.
Oh, also need to decide....I have 3 Catapults with movement inside Hungry. Do I hit his wounded stack with them to just wound them more? I'm going to assume not, since I'd lose my catapults and probably not get a chance to kill any of his units. The only purpose of this would be to wound some of his units further to more securely force him to decide not to try attacking again next turn.
Off to bed now. Will think about all this stuff in the morning.

HAK,

I've come to realize how abysmal our naval prospects are for the foreseeable future. With MC getting Steel, he can make drydocks (4XP + 50% production) as well as iron clads. So we don't have any chance at all of maintaining naval control even if we tried to. At best we could choose one or 2 locations to keep local control/challenge.

We have several areas of concern:
1. Battle island we have some chance of keeping, not due to our own abilities,...but primarily because MC would draw Tasunke's involvement. Nevertheless, we draft the/these cities continuously in order to make taking these cities difficult or at least costly. Start fortifying as soon as possible.
2. BorscheLand-Mainland junction. Here we need to have a 2-fort system so that we can move units between these landmasses with no exposure time. Getting that region self-sufficient will remove that vulnerability.
3. SE island. If we fort the marble S of Sore we can get in and out of the island without exposure. That location could be blocked but with options of launching from Sore, Frantic or the fort we could achieve drop-off even if it exposed us our galleys afterwards. Overall, this is the location where we could win some battles. We should also continuously draft these cities as soon as they hit Size7 due to their high vulnerability.
4. We need navy of some time south of Wendy's. Even if it's just a scout.

On the plus side, I think that we have a competitive advantage in land warfare with MC at least while on the defense. So we should use that to put counter-pressure on MC where possible and stop him from gaining land elsewhere.

So for lurker update:

The Battle of Hungry
We lost 12 units/940H. MC lost 19 units/1040H. Given that we weren't actually putting 80H into each musket but instead something like 20F I'd judge that we can out significantly ahead on that one.

Aside from the tactical victory, we also won on a strategic level I think. On top of MC not making any forward progress (not surprised) MC's used up 14 cats that he won't be able to combine with a stack of cannons to bust through either Retep or us. So I think that we've bought both Retep and ourselves some time.
+1 containment.

Honestly, with all of these city gifts and now this Battle of Hungry,...I swear Master Commodore is just keeping the game interesting.

We're switching our EP over to Tas in order to make use of our EPs. The only real barrier there is shuffling spies/missionaries past MC's vice-like grip on our waterways.

We've started 6 theatres this turn as part of our focus on drafting. Popeyes will start the Globe Theatre in about 4T. All part of our easy come, easy go strategy where we lose chunks of power equivalent to Retep's entire standing army while maintaining top power.

Some good news for you HAK:
I realized that Iron clads require Steam Power,...so we can challenge MC on the water especially with Astronomy. Still Drydocks will give him a pretty massive production advantage. But at least we'll be able to be a local power at a couple of key points. No ironclads means that MC can't risklessly sail to the place of his choosing.

Lastly, I compared our relative positionon T152 (world maps) to our current standing. On T152 MC had pop of 177 compared to our 142. Now we're sitting at 228 vs 192. MC has a virtually unchanged advantage of 35 tiles.

However, this is despite the razing of Thebes, Taco Bell, McDonalds adn the temporary occupation of Bouncy and the ongoing merciless drafting. I suspect that we'll catch up on worked tiles even with drafting if we can stop the city razes. We've also held the crop gap constant while catching up in mfg and land and probably the GNP rate (excluding MC's wealth builds). So I'd definatley say that we're in a relatively stronger position now than on T152 despite MC's massive tech lead and the loss of a sizable chunk of our army.

Started the turn and finished up most of it. Just a few things to maybe discuss in the morning. But here are the details so far:
Commodore pulled back his wounded units to get them to heal back home. But left all the healthy ones. And he's using his G2 CBs to destroy my improvements. Just lost another Mine & Pig pasture this turn.

I assume when the turn rolls, all those Catapult & Treb builds he has going with auto-convert to Cannons before completing. He's got them being build in most of his cities that I can see. I'm already starting to lose city investigation (to see what he is building) on some of the further away ones).

Here are the Demos & graphs:

And this is what Tas is bringing to the party (and there's 2 Knights in Dunkin after he took it).

He will likely move his Knight stack to the hill 2SW of it's current position. From there he'll see Gav's SOD inside Hadrumetum, but also see that Leptis is empty. So I'm sure the following turn he'll send troops down here to take it.

As discussed, here's the F1 screen as it stands currently.

EDIT: Replaced the image with the new build queue after our chat this morning.
Those Knights that are build built, I might leave at 1T to completion until we get Mil Trad.....but only if it looks like I won't need them as Knights before then. The one in Overworked, which would come in 3T, I will likely build a Stable before that one completes. Same with the one in Dancing. After Frantic finishes it's current build, it will build a Missionary for Dancing to help that Stable finish quicker once started.
I think I'll send the Missionary that's finishing in Happy over to Sonic. That'll help speed up the HE even further. And any buildings I may need to make for giving units XP. I think it already has a Barracks, but I know it can use a Stable. As much as we wanted to send that Missionary to Battle Island to make stealing tech cheaper....but with Commodore controlling those waters, there is just no way to get him there.
