[PB25-SPOILERS] The Lunacy of the Reign of HAK Continues

If there are any lurkers here, can one of them confirm with Tas or something....did he just double-move Gavagai? I thought he is after Gav in this war. Personally I'd love if he were able to actually raze Leptis (which is what it looks like he did according to civstats)....but I'm 99% sure that Gavagai is supposed to log in first and completely wipe out his stack before he can take that city.

Sure looks that way.

No idea why it's still sitting there while he moved in his Knights basically without any anti-mounted protectors. This is very sad because it's only going to strengthen Gavagai who will be able to strike back at me again in 5T if he wants.

Well I was certainly wrong about Gav hitting us before,...I thought that he'd sit on the sidelines until he sees us get in a bit of trouble with MC,...but Gav is currently reaping the rewards of *his* aggression crazyeye by being dogpiled. As much as it looks like Gav will have success in his defenses Gav's got 40 units showing compared to the 45 defenders we had at the end or our war.

As for strengthening Gavagai,...there are going to be a whole lot of coin-flip battles there so he's going to lose a bunch of units too. Gavagai will win the battle but probably lose his next war as a result. As for Tas (who's flushed with his success over MC) it was a terrible move since he could have hit Leptis from the fog through our culture with no risk.

If Tas loses his shirt in this battle, we'll that will keep him dependent on us so he won't be putting those galleons into any bad use. So I'm optimistic that this is a positive development for us.

Down in the SE, my 5 Caravels arrived on the scene, and both Belligerent & Grumpy each completed their Caravel. So I attacked the 2 C1 Caravels that Comm had on Grumpy's Crabs....
First battle at 27.2% was a loss.
Second battle at 27.2% (vs his other caravel)....was a WINNNNNN!!!!!!
Then against the other caravel was a 51.2% battle which I lost.
And the final battle at 86.5% was a win.
So he lost 2 C1 Caravels and I lost 2 Caravels, and have two that will be available or promotions next turn. And for the moment, Grumpy has it's Crabs back. smile

Yay! When we've healed up, let's cork up that waterway.

Certainly looks that way from civstats; pretty obviously since Tasunke rolled the last turn. I've poked his thread.

Comments on the F1 screen:
1. I think that we want to go max hammers on Popeyes. Once the Globe is done we'll be keeping this city at Size7 for pretty much ever. If the surrounding cities can use the excess food for growth, that would be an improvement.

2. I think that we need more catapults on the MC front. That's probably the single biggest deterrant to MC attacking us. MC closed the power gap on us a bit with those pre-built cat/cannons. The T180 demos suggests that he's not closing the gap any further despite what the graph shows. Basically, if we can show him a stack of 20 catapults he probably won't attack us.

I'd suggest Happy, Sad and Burning Spears could start cats after their builds are done. Given our recent naval success and build up, we may be able to switch Frantic to a cat as well?

If we make those switches,...we might be able to leave Stressed on Sistine. What do you think? I've been waffling a bit on this. If you post MC's build-up I might firm up to an actual opinion.

3. Alexandria on infrastructure. It's nice to see a 3T build, but we should keep in mind that the only reason that we control those cities is b/c MC doesn't want to get into a war with Tasunke. With MC's level of naval control we cannot protect those cities so we should probably avoid making investments. Tasunke's 10T with MC expires next turn I believe.

Took a bunch more screenshots when I logged in just now to make sure the game was to the proper reload and to repause it. no time for editing the photos to group things nicely or for much explanation. So if you have any questions, just ask me.
Showing the current odds of each unit vs his CB. Also showing that he moved a Galley in there this turn. Don't if it's to pick up a build that the city will be completing or for some other reason. May want to wait a couple turns to move in until the Galley can no longer get back into the city. If he unloads even a single unit in the city, definitely won't be able to attack it. So I'll have to let the horsies sit for a couple turns more. frown

Then some images over on the eastern front:

So the 12.5% for the Knight is what I was expecting. So we'll definately proceed if he doesn't reinforce.

We want to move 2N of Tacape next turn. Following turn a scout moves 3S1W of Dragon Judge to scout the file 2S of Dragon Judge. If that's ok, we scout 2S1W of Dragon Judge and then proceed. From the tile 3S1W of Dragon Judge we can retreat without being noticed I think.

That galley moved into the city? Yeah, that doesn't look good. Probably MC's onto us and if so he'll leave his units on the galley to draw us in. The city's building a harbour,...so it's not like those galleys are there to pick up a unit or a missionary or a spy. If he's just taking precautions,...well he'll unload the units and we'll see soon enough. No unload = TRAP. Or at least convincing enough bluff.

Related, after taking a look at the MC front,...where's his Knights? In all likelihood hidden on those galleys. So that's probably what's going on and there's a fair chance that MC's going to bump into our units on the hill next turn. If he's sending 1 knight to keep an eye out, hopefully we'll get a nice 2:1 battle.

For the main Hungry event, I'm happy to see that we've got 12 cats. I still think that we need to get that number up to 20, in order to dissuade MC and his devestating cannons. He's sure putting together a lot of cannons, but what's going to kill our units? As I hoped, it looks like he'll have problems putting together enough 100H collateral and 80H killing muskets.

Just a reminder,...we need to keep control of as many hill tiles along our MC waterfront as possible. NW of Sleepy in particular. We need to avoid as many G2-muskets-on-hill-protecting-cannons situations as possible. In fact, if MC came through Sore he could get onto either of the 2 hill next to Stressed pretty easily. So we're more vulnerable in the south. The south suffers the further complication that he could fork 2 cities after the fall of Sore. So that's where I would expect him to hit us.

Having said that, the defense of Hungry looks promising at this point. MC's doesn't have enough units (yet) to break us at Hungry without dangerously unloading his other cities. If he goes all-in, we abandon our choke while sending in some 2-movers to try to counter-raze and/or threaten for peace.

Oh, the galley movement: I'm just realizing that that galley broke off from the 3-unit stack. Well that's definately closing that door firmly. Probably best to pull back. If we're not noticed, we may be able to save that surprise for another Cuirassier day. Alternatively, MC is realizing that we could gain naval control over the area and that he could be cut off from defending that city. Either way, I think that we're done over there.

Quick reply on this point as it's all I have time for right now. I've been watching all over his lands every turn, doing skims of his cities and lands....I've only seen a single Knight anywhere ever since that round of battles with Tasunke....and that's also where most of his knights were at the time. So the only thing I can think is that maybe Tas killed all those knights before they signed that city peace deal? There were definitely never any knights moving SE across his lands which would have then loaded up onto that galley, unless it was on that galley all this time and never unloaded. And even the last few times I've looked at his Military advisor screen, it has always only displayed just that 1 Knight.

Popped in real quick to grab the details of what is over there after Gav did indeed slaughter Tasunke's knight stack. That was just stupid. Even my misteps weren't that bad, and even I know better than to charge in with basically just Knights with nothing protecting them.

Based on the change of that Rival Worst number, that is Tas down at the bottom of the Power rankings.

Wow. That is awful. I had this feeling all along that Tasunke was going to be overexuberant after his win over MC. That little attack was decidedly reckless. And what was he trying to accomplish attacking Leptis? It's not clear whether he was trying to cut us off or help us out. [EDIT. Seriously what was his game plan after Leptis?]

So 249K in power drop,...Tasunke's stack was 203K in power. Gav losing 4 cats + 3 WEs would explain the rest. Ouch. I didn't notice from the other pic that Tasunke left Dunkin Donuts completely empty as well? I'd be feeling really guilty if that slaughter came as a result of our OB,...but Tasunke did that all by himself.

Donnovan might be handing back that city real soon.

What does this all mean for us? Mostly good news I think. Tasunke's former exuberance is not going to cause him to go boating our cities in pursuit of the #2 position. He'll remain reliant on our joint defense of Battle Island. In effect, we only have to worry about the 2 main problems that we've always been worrying about.

We'll have to be a little cognisant of maintaining the balance of power between Tas & Donnovan until Tasunke can replenish his land troops. I'm not sure how we could signal a 2 drafted muskets for 1 galleon deal,...but that would be very much to our benefit. A couple of galleons could force MC to garrison his cities and that means less units coming our way.

Sparta has 3 galleons in it. Maybe we can draft Alex and move a unit in/towards his city?

Tasunke Offers:
Sparta
3 gold

HAK Offers:
Alexandria
6 gold (with a musket moved out of the city and highly visible)

Lightening the defenses of Alex is risky,...but we might be able to take the naval fight to MC. That would probably make Alex net safer. An unpromoted galleon or 3 wouldn't be the end of MC's navy but it might be the start of the end. A C1 attacking Caravel would still have about 22% odds. But combined with our HE coming online and focussed exclusively on navy,...that might do the trick.

I do want to emphasis that Tasunke's treaty with MC expires this turn,...so we should do whatever we can do to support our ally while he whips himself into irrelevance (again).

For our chat here's the initial look at things for this turn:
First the Demos before doing anything (no drafts yet either):

And again, the mass of screenshots of stuff on the Gavagai front. No time to make them nice in just one image with arrows pointing at the stacks:
