Good luck with your goals! I'm in a similar place, improving a lot but still plenty of room for that. It's a very hard game as you know with many balancing acts, e.g. expansion vs economic stagnation vs military defense. And it's also not anything like a game such as Starcraft where you can learn by watching replays and emulating builds, because the right build changes a lot depending on the exact situation of the map and what's going on. I think it's the right attitude though, self-reflection and trying to see things that went wrong and fix them next time.

Here is why I think I'm currently middle of the pack right now. I'm estimating if everyone went to break even research I would be in 3rd or 4th place currently. As well as my poor MFG and CY, cause lack of cities is killing me. Although good things are coming ahead with my power going to 8th place instead of spending most of the time in the bottom of the standings. Population though, is surprisingly high. So yeah, I'm going to test out my fighting skills against Gawd in about 15ish turns where I will try and swallow him to put me on more even footing with the rest of the front runners. Actually, if I completely swallow up Gawd I would probably be the favorite to win. Although looking back at Pitboss 12 my fighting was really really poor.

Moai city finally completed, I might run this as my HE city just because I have no better sites. I'm probably just going to place it there and then use all the units I made there for the war with Gawd maybe it's worthwhile maybe it's not let's see. I'm debating about whether I should be staying in Caste system or going back to slavery for some of those . I mean caste is nice as I have a couple of Workshops around but not enough to be worthwhile, although it does allow me to run mass merchants with mercantilism.
Also Gawd switched into slavery, police state and theocracy. Perhaps he sees where the wind is blowing and realizes I'm going to be attacking at the end of my 3rd GA. Well let's see if police state can keep up with drafting of the muskets. Probably won't though and it's probably not even worthwhile considering that police state is high in maintenance.

Okay so I original sent him a deer for deer diplo screen since I had to protect my workers at the front and was possibly threatening a raze on a small size 2 city that was inconsequential. So I sent him that saying that my intent wasn't to raze the city. Looks like the 20 gold for 20 gold is for a 20 Turn NAP. Groan. Actually I'm not sure how bad NAP'S cause I've never played with them on. Guess I'll see if this is true. If I was more trusting of Gawd I would move some of my garrisons away from his front and place them in the front with Zanth cause he has MT and looks like he is gearing for a war with someone. Maybe me for all those juicy towns and I have 2 academies.

Also my capital is on the top 5 cities list this late into the game. Probably my HG pushing me over Istanbul. Although I'm not exactly sure how Least Action is above my capital.

Sheesh that's a scary stack from Jowy although Catwalk as a bigger higher power than Jowy. I'm very happy that I don't neighbor Catwalk right now cause I could have been easily conquered by him. Also Gawdzak used his GA to overtake me in power and Zanth is still ahead of me in power. So I'm not sure if I'll be able to conquer Gawd at all, now that he has pikes to deal with my knights and cuir when they pop out. Might just go for Astronomy next after I get MT and go down the chemistry line and use my naval advantage to fork several of Zanth's city if he would to come after me. They might also be useful in the war with Gawd.

Well Gavagi has a different worker than me so it's pretty obvious that he's already in the Industrial era. I need to follow suit quickly or get left behind in the dust. My own GA will have to go off shorty if I would like to get back into this game. But I'm just not sure which civics I will be in once my GA is over. I would love to have representation but maybe I'll change on that. Most probable route for me to go though is get finished with Nationalism then spend 3 turns collecting gold. Fire golden age and tech all the way to Astronomy then finish up on paper to education so I can whip out universities once I'm out of the GA. Oxford will be so useful to me right now, since at 100% science it will boost my beaker count by 117.



2 Great generals generated by Jowy so there was definitly fighting between him and Catwalk, I also noticed Jowy's stack was somewhat damaged by units but the size of the stack didn't seem to drop. As well as not seeing a power drop yet but I'll get to see it next turn though and then I can probably deduce who came out on top of this exchange. Also the unkown Great General should be Catwalk's. As long as Jowy gives Catwalk a good pounding I think me and Zanth can get far enough ahead of him that his superior city count will help him catch up though conquering Gawd might not even be plausible anymore considering he has muskets.

Yay rng didn't fail me this time so now I have my 2 man GA. Probably not going to launch it now but I'm going to be waiting for when to launch it. I can easily generate two more GP from this GA and then probably a 3rd one soonish. After Nationalism I'm going for MT and I might go for Rifles. Actually I'm probably going to be going for rifles since it goes through PP which would be a huge boost to my economy.




Turn 158

I just realized that Mardoc is currently leading in CY but he's behind in MFG and GNP but that just means he going to catch up to me and Zanth really quickly. Also you can see that huge fight between Catwalk and Jowy with that huge power drop that happened. Though I'm a little scared that Zanth is coming after me with his power advantage, I'm going for Sistine Chapel because I'm probably going to be going for a Cultural victory.
