[Spoilers] Grotsnot massively inflates his own View count

Well damn. Not easily simmable, no. Have to align the current production progress and the tech/civic %. It could very well come down to <1 Icon_Production: IIRC my spreadsheet at home predicted being like 0.3 away on T51 if I jimmy it properly. Perhaps not impossible to sim but would take a lot of time and I've already sat on the turn for the day >_<

It'd be pretty doable in Civ4 but 6 (and 5) is a massive regression in WorldBuilder usability.

Yeah I am running out of ideas here to see if something was overlooked.  Curse your thoroughness.  crazyeye Well not much to do now but pray to RNJesus for a good roll.  You have about 2 turns until they can attack I would estimate.

Hail Mary has been cast to the skies. Now all we can do is nervously wait to see where it lands:

Went with Tribute + Not One Step Back. The Defensive Tactics boost was the deciding factor in not issuing the first strike - I cannot in good conscience hand Rome a large chunk of culture they otherwise would likely have to slow-build. And if I can pull off fleeing into the west, receiving that boost would be a nice consolation prize.

This will end either in total disaster or save the city. It's in Alhambram's and RNGesus' hands now, comrades please

Oh also I was mistaken about how far off I was from a T51 wall - had an Excel row entered wrong rolleye I believe it will be 3.4Icon_Production away from completion on T51 if I chop on T50. Still would like to test the chop it if it's allowable... I don't suppose running it on an already-submitted turn affects that particular ethical calculus?  mischief

In other I'm-a-moron news: if the southern Legion has Battlecry the Slinger dies even with maximal RNGesus blessings crazyeye Really wish there was a way to view enemy promotions Argh

Also, quite looking forward to reading Alhambram's thread after this to see his reaction to this turn. Am I crafty or just an idiot? lol

I see no problem with you loading the turn up again to testing the chop and confirm your math, after you play and pass the turn on. Play the turn and send it on first. Make sure you are careful not to misclick any units and gain vision you shouldn’t have.

Well folks, welcome back to Gerpsnerp's Rip-Roaring Tour of Mistakes. When we last left our heroes, Rome was about to declare war and the whole nation was praying for one more turn before the hammer dropped. Offerings and troops were gathered at the border trying to buy time for the Walls to go up.

Thanks for the input on chop testing, Cornflakes! However, it's moot:

The daggum bastards have a Ram, too. So it was pointless from the beginning Toot

And, as you can see, attempting to hold the river pocket was a failure. The Romans spent a Slinger rock on it, so yeah, Alhambram is smartinger than i is.

Now I'm sure you're asking yourself: ah, but could it get worse? Well, if you're an idiot like me, it can!

duh

smoke in detail:

Cray-on Scrawling Translation: T50, Spear takes up residence, his +STR allows StG to soak the two Legions (and Slinger). T51 he tries to flee but is cut down by a pursuing Legion after their buddy takes the city. So ~naturally~ I should order the Spearman to retreat now.

Somehow I forgot to factor in that you can't attack while stacked on another unit ipecac

So, yeah, the Spearman could totally have held StG for a turn and then escaped out the back. INSTEAD:

dancing dancing dancing

Small silver lining, Marco's been a good buddy. On the turn war was declared:

Thanks man, but I cannot in good conscience take all your money when it's a futile situation. I decline and send back an Open Borders exchange. Also send one to Greece. Both accepted!

So, what's next for the rolling disaster known as the Japanese Empire? As is tradition, grand plans that have no chance of coming to fruition!

Gonna try and get a Swordsman up in Ooarai to buy time for a refugee Settler. I did a sim game (boy it's tedious playing all 4 members of a hotseat test) and sadly discovered that a Settler is insufficient to stay in the game. Must be an exception for your starting Settler alright

So if this is gonna work we need to get a refugee camp settled on the western coast, build another Settler, finish Shipbuilding, send it out over the waves, find land, and plant Númenor all before the camp is hunted down and destroyed. Tall order, to put it mildly.

Now one option would be to abuse the kindness Greece has shown me by running down through their land and settling in the far southwest. Would mean Rome has to go through them first. Or negotiate passage, I suppose. But in theory it'd be harder for them to find in the first place? Hopefully they'd goose chase out through the northwest.

Have a few turns to decide. Builder is headed back to Saunders to put a chop into the Settler and shave off I think 3 turns. It will then accompany the refugees to get a chop and an improvement at the camp. So not only do I need to pull off all of the above crazy bullshit, but Ooarai or Saunders needs to survive a good 15 more turns shakehead Iron Working will be finished by the time the Legions reach the capital, but I'm pretty sure that without an Encampment I won't be able to upgrade. I at least transferred the Iron tile over to Ooarai before StG fell but they'll probably pillage it before I get the chance to use it. Capital is gonna finish up its walls, which will coincide with growing to pop 4 so it can start on an Encampment. We won't survive long enough to finish it but I can dream.

So yeah, we're doomed. As we've known for a good 20 turns now. But may as well try.

You are allowed to upgrade units with only 1 source of the resource, even when you don’t have an encampment.

Well hot damn, might just be able to buy a few turns then! Maybe. I think the earliest they can pillage the Iron just happens to be right before IW finishes. Because, y'know, I'm a moron and gave up StG a turn early. Is it normal for all these off-by-one errors to cascade like this? shakehead

Your capital does look pretty defensable.  You have hills soon a wall and a river.  I do not have too much to add, other than I am not sure how well running through Greece would work.  Your best bet is to hold on and hope that Rome falls prey to an early leader syndrome.

Anything in particular about the Hide Behind Greece plan? We have DoF for another 25ish turns. They might decide to eat us but I would hope Alhazard decides it's more worthwhile to have a non-threatening rump state around turning 3 of Rome's cities into millstones.
