So this is where "neutrality" looks different to different people - in the U.S., banning students from wearing religious insignia would NOT be seen as neutral on religion, as students' First Amendment rights would be violated.

In other places, they don't pretend that true neutrality exists. Secular values come first, after that any religious stuff that doesn't conflict is allowed.

Best example would be a judge. They are meant to be impartial and neutral, so should they be allowed to wear a hijab. I'm definitely not conservative, but in this case I would argue: No they should not be allowed to wear anything that is in conflict with that neutrality.

Did I say things would be fine if not for the republicans? If you can't tell, the first part of what I said is pretty obvious sarcasm and laughing at the liberal mindset. But things under the republicans can get a lot worse.
