I would be not unhappy with 4 people given better turn times and reliability.
We can add a 5th if he is a reliable player, though.
If we go with 4 people, option 3) sounds best.
Else 1).

I am fine with a 4 player game. I don't see a need to start over with first round of picks, just throw his picks back into the pool of rejects and send new picks to the ones that asked for a re-roll.
If others want to expand the list to 12 civs and pick from 3, I am fine with it too.

I would be willing to take his place if you go for a 5 person game. However I want to precise that 23:00 CEST is typically a deadline as I commute 3 days a weak for 1.5 hours with my car and I do not want to drive while being sleepy.
That said, I just became father and am in a two weeks vacation right now which started on Monday. This will probably also lead to less commuting.
I am also very green compared to you guys as can be seen in my PBEM17 performance. However it also shows that I try not to be to easy to swallow ?
Edit: I am spoiled for this game so far, if you guys let me join you can either see it as the advantage for the green guy or we can redraw.
I will stop reading threads until of this PBEM until you have decided

Kaiser, I think the turn windows work out in such a manner that you should be able to have time to play the save daily. If anything I think our turn windows may pile up between myself, Woden and Ichabod if I remember correctly from previous games as we're all near each other in time zone terms.
Speaking of which, my window is 2100-0300 GMT (17:00 to 11:00 US EDT).
If Kaiser comes on board it seems like we're doing Option 2, yes? If we stay at 4 players I have no preference between option 1 and option 3.

Yes, that is why I would change my play window to 18:00 - 22:00 CEST (20:00 - 24:00 GMT) if you guys want me to join.

I agree with suboptimal, the bottleneck will be getting the order right for Ichabod, Suboptimal and me .
I think if you are up to a consistent 1-turn-a-day pace, I would be happy to have a 5th player but I think I will leave the final say to TheArchduke, because he will be the one trying to get the turn to you on time.
My ideal window is 23:00 - 5:00 GMT (18:00 - 0:00 CDT). I am fairly flexible and it has worked out in the past to play after suboptimal.

I have a very flexible window right now, likely until the end of the year. I think it would be best for me to play before Suboptimal, because the end of his window is a bit late for me.
Ioan was online on the forum just a few minutes ago. Perhaps he sent a PM to Quagma Blast with his pick? Otherwise, I'm fine with Kaiser joining. I prefer 5 players because I think 4 players end up with a 2-duels setting that I don't really like.
I really liked my pick, so I favor the options that allow me to keep it. ![lol lol](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/lol.gif) But if you prefer to pick again, no problem.

Any objections to swapping Kaiser in, Archduke?

None whatsoever. I want a crisp turnpace. Welcome Kaiser!
@Kaiser:
If you want a true green experience, read PBEM 1. There you can see some "great" play by me.

Cool, I start my thread then, can anybody please post me the civ choices Ioan had?
I read most of PBEM 1 - 4 and then again PBEM 16 due to starting a new job after returning from South America
