My first 12-win arena run! It was a mage, of course. And I had 3 fireballs and a pyro, of course. And 3 flamestrikes, of course.

Grats on getting 12, v8!
(June 29th, 2014, 02:16)uberfish Wrote: Card advantage is overrated because it doesn't do you any good to have 3 more cards if you keep having to play minions into enemy board control, you'll lose those cards back since all trades favour them. With that druid I had 2 1-drops and a claw, often went 1 for 2 with them and still never ran out of cards. I also think 1-of naturalize is very underrated - it's the most powerful tempo card in the game, can completely flip board control and fills a large hole in Druid capabilities. Yeah, the real thing to play for is board control. Card advantage let's you have more resources to fight for board control in later turns but that doesn't help if your opponent has 3 large minions to your none. I just had a shaman run yesterday that probably should have been a 12 win draft but I got to 10-1 before losing two close ones in a row. It gave me a new appreciation for windspeaker. Either it let's you do a chunk of damage if your opponent has no minions or it let's you 2-1 with another minion. There were several games where giving another minion windfury was what let me gain board control and never look back

The original context is having more 1's because they can spend all your mana. However, if you play a 1 and 2 on turn 3 into a board clear or hero power ping + 2 drop then you are 1 card down. I rather play off mana (like a 4 drop on 5) and have a good turn 6/7 in my hand than a 4 + 1. I think the only 1 drops I would consider are those that act like spells (abusive, voodoo) or hard to remove (argent, worgen).
In general I supposed the card advantage in hand vs board control on field somewhat depends on how much AOE you managed to draft and what stage of the game you are at. If you have 3 cards in hand and 3 minions on field and it is turn 3/4 and I have 5 cards and wipe 3 minions with a lighting storm, then my card advantage will allow me to more likely counter what you can play even though you'll regain board control next turn.

Uber's draft had excellent late game and plenty of card draw mechanics, so having those cheap cards to help with tempo was probably quite valuable. Two of the three were worgen infiltrator and claw which almost always trade with a 2 drop anyway. Elven archer is rather situational. I think this might be something to consider for druids because they always have strong late game and usually have enough card draw. I lose arena games as druid with 5 cards in my hand pretty often. Sometimes it just doesn't seem possible to get enough 2 drops in a druid draft.

Speaking of druid... (1) Claw (1) Leper Gnome (2) Acidic Swamp Ooze x2 (2) Amani Berserker (2) Knife Juggler (2) Mad Bomber (2) Murloc Tidehunter (3) Arcane Golem (3) Big Game Hunter (3) Flesheating Ghoul (3) Mind Control Tech (3) Raid Leader (4) Swipe x3 (4) Cult Master (4) Sen'jin Shieldmasta (4) Twilight Drake (5) Starfall (5) Druid of the Claw x3 (5) Frostwolf Warlord (5) Stranglethorn Tiger (5) Venture Co Mercenary (6) Starfire (7) Stormwind Champion (8) Ragnaros the Firelord This deck started off going 2-2 and not a sight of Ragnaros. I didn't know what I was more upset at: the fact that I wasn't even going to see Ragnaros after getting him for the first time in arena, or that I was underperforming with all those excellent cards. Then I won 10 in a row to finish it out, getting Rag in almost every game. The 12th win was a great slug-it-out with a mage. No rag, but there was one instance where he MC-ed my Stormwind Champ, only to have me MC his Venture Co the next turn. As a deck, the goal was to stall out the early game and wait for the late game, since I had a ton of good damage spells and a ton of good mid-to-late game creatures. So trading creatures early and often, and then when I started playing the Druids of the Claw the game would turn to my favor. Only my second time hitting 12; hopefully I can get it sooner next time!

I have giants but not archmage or alex, I have 6k+ dust but still haven't crafted anything because of the "what if I open this in a pack and waste 1200 dust" factor
