Donovan did not pause for himself, he (presumably) paused for Ichabod. In effect a turn timer extension without using the admin powers. Perhaps we should ask players not to pause without someone asking, same as the admins?

Edit: to be clear, I think Donovan was being kind. Just that this is something worth considering in future.

Well there's the exception of pausing for the player after yourself in turn split. But that usually is also connected with a request of more time for that player

Hey all, I thought I would clear the air on some of my behaviors that have been rightfully discussed in this thread.

First of all, I’d like to apologize for being a less than stellar member of the community recently. Objectively, one can look back to past games and surmise that the problem goes back much further, so I appreciate that I am still welcomed to play despite this. It’s probably best to just answer the two main questions directly.

The last time the turn went through Ichabod appeared to be fine with it as well noidea ? (If he has asked for extension by PMing the admins or something I have no issues with that of course)

I think Amicalola hit closest to the green on this one.  With 40 minutes left on the clock (an issue of my own doing), I was left with the choice of pausing the game or willfully causing another player to miss out.  I likely would not have done so if there were 3 hours or more left.  So going forward, I’ll just let the game run or refrain from putting myself in that position when I can.  Sorry for the delay.  smile

Yep SD, you caught me! I am a long-time Parkin smurf who has had to nerf his abilities significantly in order to mask my true identity. You know, a smurfnerf. nod

But to answer Charriu’s question, one or more of the following factors could come into play at any given time during my recent marathon turns.

1. I play Civ through my 75” TV, which allows me to vividly play armchair general, pace around the room a bit and admittedly wander off from time to time when met with tough decisions.

2. Obsessive micro, and decision paralysis.

3. As Amicalola noted, I will occasionally leave the game open while I made food, ran for take out or completed a small chore for the wife so I could, you know, continue to play Civ in the future. To me, it was easier to leave the game open than to raise your collective concerns on whether I had completed the turn or not.

4. I can count on 2 hands the number of times I have recently dozed off for 2-3 hours while in-game during those 3am turns.

5. I just really love Civ!  I’ve been playing since Civ2 in ‘97, where I once played for 27 hours straight (a session which culminated in the founding of my second city lol ).  And speaking of unhealthy obsessions, I’d take each city and cradle them in my arms if I could.

Anyway, thanks to you all for enduring my quirks without too much grousing. I am definitely having a great time playing, but could definitely work on my communication skills here.

Love it. Hopefully you have the right hat too. Something like this:

Absolutely have no problem with you staying in game so long. I was just curious because it's so unusual.
I think I also speak for everybody that all of this wouldn't be a big issue if you just give us a quick note here. You may also have noticed that I extended your timer more then once during your pause-sessions. Don't feel bad to ask for a few more hours.

Ha, It actually may be time for an image update.  I skipped over my Civ 3 era, which was almost exclusively spent being a moderator/player of Democracy games at Civfanatics.  There, my demeanor most resembled this smug punk, due to my penchant for being a bit of an oratorical ass.

Yes, I have noticed and thank you.  One time you reached out to me in game but I couldn’t reply because I was still cycling through opening queues. I’m going to make a concerted effort to minimize my time in-game to avoid any further issues.

I wouldn't be able to answer let alone read your message. I used the admin tool to tell you the timer was extended

Sorry for being late to the turn. Feel free to let the timer run out if I haven't played or posted here. I haven't checked the forums much because I don't like it in here that much anymore.

So when I try to connect to the server, that goes fine and I pick my leader/civ. After entering the password, instead of loading the game, my computers get stuck on the rotating globe and do not progress further. If I press 'Go Back' the game crashes and I have to restart the computer. Other people still seem able to connect, and even I could a few hours ago. Anyone able to help with this?

It looks like the server is automatically logging me out (while the game is 'loading' PBSpy will already register me as having 'logged out'), but I have no idea why that would be.

Edit: Restarted the router on the advice of Tarkeel; seems to have fixed the problem for whatever reason.

I'm having this exact problem again for the first time in 6 months, but now restarting the router isn't working. Anyone have any other ideas? I'm terrible at this sort of thing.

I had the same issue yesterday, and then randomly installed a Windows update and it worked again. Nor saying that the update is the fix, but maybe it resets something in the system?

That worked, thanks! bow
