Apparently not  (Gaspar's thread)?

I don't think it's too strong after Optics, in the CtH version and with everybody having access. I don't know if it makes three astro line too effective again,  but astro got a nerf so it may be ok.

Well to be specific not astro got the nerf, but rather galleons. smile

SD is wondering why he is being attacked by Serdoa. He is correct that Rusten's pink dot is even more hostile than his, but I would assume that Rusten is defending the city with more than just a warrior..

I think this trouble is very much invited by SD. First of all, I don't like the city plant: Settling e.g. E of Stone would have been way more compact and in the long run also grabbed all the tiles that have value. Most likely this city would have been available for a good while and something more productive could have been settled first. And anyways even if you decide to go for such an outpost, T65 is way too late to defend such plants with only a single warrior..  rolleye

In addition to what Fintourist said. The E of Stone spot would also have been instantly connected to his trade network

EDIT: Just saw the arrow sign underneath his warriors feet, so disregard my comment.

Yeah, I guess not.  I didn't test it myself, i just was going off of someone's previous comment that there was too much land mass.

Definitely agree it's too strong to circumnav pre-Optics in CtH.  That's something the mapmaker needs to be careful of. If you do decide to let people circumnav before Optics then the map needs to be crafted so that every player has an equal opportunity to circumnavigate, and this map is not good enough in that regard.

I will change it so that you can only circumnavigate with Optics. That way the mapmaker doesn't have to worry about it

It's entertaining, but NobleGas are maybe a bit too eager to call out their opponents micro mistakes..  mischief I'm not saying they are necessarily wrong re Rusten or whoever, but micro plan where you are always working improved tiles and never "wasting" a worker turn is not a good micro plan. You kind of aim for that, but if those things do not happen occasionally I think it's pretty much guaranteed that you are not playing your start to its limits. Sure, if Serdoa took 8+ turns to improve his grass pigs there probably was room for improvement etc, but in general it's quite hard to judge this kind of stuff from the outside.

With regards to their own micro/decisions it seems that the significant cost from picking Byz has now been addressed in Gaspar's nice analysis post. The conclusion that Mining would somehow be a must-have tech in CtH misses the point though.

I don't understand the point re Mining.
