Would you raze Rome and Antium? Or capture? Or is it context dependent?

Aim would be to capture but very much context dependent.

Tempted to send a unit through Rome to see what is on the other side but I'm not sure if that would wake Gavagai up to scout me as well

Please tell me SD and Gavagai aren't out-waiting each other for the last half of the turn split. If that's the case, lurkers need to step in and make SD go first

I hate this part of a plan.

The plan is set, I'm already committed to the action, and it's just a waiting game to build up the forces and then attack. 7 turns - one week.

We finish HBR at end of turn, with just 3 gold to spare. Inspector Gadget held off settling until next turn to squeak in under the bar. Barracks are finishing or have finished and next turn we start horse archers everywhere. Then whip. Then overflow into another round.

Commodore built Temple of Artemis. I think he's our top city count too?

That's going to be a nailbiting week.

Actually, there is another thing that makes the waiting suck.  This is the time where I find the mistakes in my planning, and the numbers I thought I was going to attack with start dwindling as various mistakes are found and corrected.  Or worker movements are missed.  For instance, I didn't count right at Thundercats and now one of the horse archers is going to be 1 tile behind the main stack.  Down to 9 horse archers, unless I decide I want to swap that last one over to a chariot and then it can be 9 HA + 1 chariot.

Then I didn't move the workers correctly last turn and so I can't chop out the forest at My Little Pony in time that I need to get the 2nd horse archer there.  But I think I can fix that by swapping the copper over from David the Gnome.  I'm still working out what needs to exactly happen there and if DtG can absorb it - but if so I think I need to get back in there and swap the tile over this turn.

Regardless:

Commodore taking peace with Bing must mean that border war is over.  However, the Gavagai feud still runs hot:  last turn after I played Gav burned a Commodore city - likely his newest as there was no temporary score increase for Gav.

Magic Science is likely the person who finished the quest.  I've seen nothing but chariots from him as my scout and galley moves through his lands.  I'll save more on him for next turn, but I hope he uses that to get the religion spreads.  Otherwise why revolt and take the anarchy there?

Inspector Gadget was settled this turn.  Magic Science has a settler himself ready to go, where his spear has been camped out by the Crabs.

With all the chariots I'm spotting I'm shuffling the axe west and will swap it out with the Skirmisher in My Little Pony.  Will eventually do the same with the warrior at Thundercats, though I might just make another Skirmisher there too.

Inspector Gadget drops the research rate down to about 40% for breakeven.  That will dip over the next few turns as I whip, but I should be able to recover well with lighthouse coasts and those riverside cottages.  Planted my 4th down this turn, and my second grassland 4c hamlet came about this turn too.

I believe the next tech is going to be Math, aiming for Currency.  But so far nobody I've met teched Math or Metal Casting, and I'll have half a mind to tech MC too.

Zed-F, here's a question for you: Do we keep building horse archers after this initial wave or do we go back to infrastructure and trust we have enough? On one hand, you don't want to come up short and we can certainly out-produce. On the other hand, this is an attack plan that's predicated on speed, and I do want to start getting libraries built.

I would have been happy to give an opinion in PB65, but here I am spoiled and believe that means I can’t answer. (My opinion might not be worth that much anyway as I have played very little Civ4 and my knowledge of the game is theoretical / vicarious.)

Oh I misunderstood your post before. In that case I'll say I'm leaning towards just doing this quick wave of 2 horse archers in each city and then starting infrastructure while the war kicks off. But if I see Gavagai power spiking then I'll stay on units or go half and half

Charriu, did I fail the quest because I finished HBR? And if so, did I just give away to the field that I teched HBR by answering your question in the tech thread??

Edit: I deleted my post in the tech thread
