PBEM18 Organizing Thread

Wait so is this game CTON or not CTON? I always thought Can't Talk Or Negotiate assumed Always War, but it doesn't list Always War in the settings screen. Unless you guys pitied us and chose not to make PBEM18noob AW.

I was sort of wondering on that aspect too. Pro game is also not set to AW. Thus perhaps we can set open borders, trade resources and the like in game just not talk about it? Clarification would be good for that since we didn't really decide that as a group.

All the definitions of CTON in this thread assumed that it DOES NOT imply always war. For example:

Krill Wrote:CTONs are fairly simple games that you only have to open the save, play, hit end turn and then send hte save. There is nothing else to do outside that, that you 100% have to do, and so CTON games are good for those with little time. However, there are downsides to this: even if the game doesn't have Always War enabled, you are effectively stuck playing AW because you can't work out border treaties, NAPs or the like, but this doesn't mean you will be at war from t0, if you play safely. You do have to be on your guard though.

I would be willing to go out on a limb and say that it's a game type that most people on RB that haven't played extensive amounts of MP actually have (or would have) a lot of difficulty playing right. I think PBEM4 is a perfect example of just how lopsided these games can become. They are still fun though with the right group, 1 turn a day and a decent map.

I see nothing stopping you from opening borders, making trades, even gifting units if you feel generous. You just can't talk, or do stuff like rename your units to messages, or work out a code for rice gift offers meaning something or whatever.

I agree with you guys. Signing OB and trading isn't forbidden imho.

Hey Ioan, welcome back. Let's get this show on the road! I think your save went through, the tracker seemed to list GE as the next player.

So for example if i have a spare rice, and the other player a spare wheat, i can just put it on the trade table for him to accept, but we can't discuss about it?

If you were really clever you could use some sort of morse code like: road on the border = ON, no road = OFF, and write messages that way.

Or just cheat and send emails lol.

Yes. You can use the diplo window for whatever, except typing messages.
I have to run.
