Oi, sorry, thought I was fired due to new volunteer. I'm still quite happy to make the thing, and my ideas would be:
"Lakes" levels of water, perhaps with some of the more distant bodies navigable, but certainly not a circumnav-permitted amount of water.
Toroidal, mostly mirrored.
Nothing too weird or gimmicky.
On the other hand if Ozzy wants to make it it's no skin off my nose either.

Mirrored lakes sounds good, but it would be nice to have some navigable water available to each team + enough water to make Navy an interesting choice.

That's the plan, but Cultists are like Sirian on steroids, the capitals, at least, will be free from their scourge.

It seems more fair to re-randomize the last set of the snake pick since the team order in the case of only 3 picks causes a slight imbalance. In the case below you end up with an average order placement of 6, 6.3, 6.6, 7 because of the odd number of rounds of the pick instead of the same average placement in a regular snake pick.
I'd like to see a reverse in the order of the last four picks or at least re-randomize the last 4 to make it a little more fair for the 3rd and 4th picking teams.

edit: For clarity, the above written team-order is from the first post of this thread and the sequence in which the pick comes from random.org.
edit2: And I guess you guys do a snake-pick? So 3-1-4-2-2-4-1-3-3-1-4-2?

Hmm, I thought we'd already agreed to make the last pick in reverse order, as you mention.
So that's be:
3-1-4-2
2-4-1-3
2-4-1-3
PS - dunnp - remind me, are you one of Hart's team?

Agree. Since we seem to have a consensus on most options, I think we can start picking now (unless somebody else wants to bring something up).
So, Team 3, seems your up first.

Ah, ok. Seemed the most likely reason for a first post to be about the details of this game. . Welcome to RB, dunnp.
A couple technical points that cross my mind, now that things are moving:
First, any opinions on turn timer length? I'd really like at least 24 hrs, I generally can't play except in evenings.
Second - I've never actually played a Pitboss before. What's the procedure to connect to the host? And how do I verify I don't have a firewall issue?

If its simulturns, usually 20 hours is enough. Pitboss adds extra time to the clock every time somene logs in, and Civ4's timekeeping is slower than real time - a 20 hour setting in game usually means up around 24 to 26 hours in real-time. And if everyone takes their turn, much shorter than that.
Consectuive: we could have no timer, and treat it almost as a PBEM, but without the hassle.
Mardoc Wrote:Second - I've never actually played a Pitboss before. What's the procedure to connect to the host? And how do I verify I don't have a firewall issue? Simply use a Direct IP connection to connect to the host. We have a primer for figuring out if there's a problem connecting to the host - I will update this post later on.
