Alhambram declared war on Suboptimal, not only to give him a production bonus but also to get himself extra movement. I went ahead and had 2 envoys, I placed one in Zanzibar for the extra 2 , since well I am broke, and the other one in Hong Kong for the extra production after Jess finishes this horseman. I opted out of Armagh, because my plan is to take the city after I get Rose back.
News from the East...
Hopefully the Aussies can last. I would like to help him if I could but I got my own problems. Also Archduke sent me some oranges for free, so now thats horses, oranges and spices for free. Well not sure if I will ever be able to return the favor. I understand it is not good for the game if Archduke takes out Suboptimal, but what am I to do? Maybe I will think of something.
Back on the home front...
Barb threat almost neutralized. I am hopeful that I can heal up by the time my new horseman finish and beat Persian reinforcements. I need Jess to finish a water mill next so I can swap my government cards around. The game has been extra exciting since Persia took Rose, each turn is nail biting!!
Well looks like there is still major conflict in the east...
All western routes for my scout seem blocked, I doubt it is safe to follow the tundra with barbs about. May just double back and see how much info I can gain about war going on in these parts.
Back on the war front...
There was an archer hunting down my horse. I think this spot will be safe to heal up a bit. Not sure how much trouble this guy can cause but keeping him alive is priority #1. Bastion area is almost Alhambram and barbarian free.
Due to the substantial mess ups I have had this game I am starting to think that getting Rose back is not going to happen. DotF looks to be the only course I can take to at least pose a threat. Getting to Rose is kill zone.
I am going to assume that any unit that moves onto the hill just outside the city will get hit with 4 ranged shots from archers and immortals, even if I somehow got the city converted and had crusade I do not think I could take it. So new plan need DotF now more than ever if I am going to have a chance of holding off any assault.
Lets start with the score and the eastern scouting report...
Had some barbs close when I started the turn so moved across the river to safety. Both Archduke and suboptimal have units in the area. As of right now the duke declared war on persia so he is denied some extra movement until he can peace up with the Aussies and redeclare. This will be a continuing problem that I will have to deal with.
Back at the homeland
So I can't take Rose back, my units will not make it through. So if I do want the city back I will need to wait until I can assault the city from the west as well. This will require help from Armagh. I either need to take the city or make peace with them. To make peace I have to put in envoy's, so war seems to be the best option. The game is getting close to medieval units and I am not sure I can take Armagh with the horseman I have. This would not be an issue but I suspect Persia intervention. Well I need more cities, more military, more districts, more traders, more science, more culture, more money, and more faith. That is a large order....
To start I swapped to a shrine last turn, DotF and bastions defensive position is highest priority, walls and repairs are needed. I don't think 5 horse and 1 ram are enough to take the city fast enough to get back to bastion and defend if Alhambram decides to push. So I cannot venture out to far without walls in bastion and the encampment repaired. After this horse is finished that will have to be bastions priority.
Religion should come naturally once the shrine is finished. Half tempted to run a project after, although that may only get me a religion 1 or 2 turns sooner. I do need to make a civic swap so I think that the watermill in Jess is the fastest way to make that happen, I will switch to autocracy to get the maximum card slots I can and go from there. I think a settler will follow, then I can possibly finish my science district.
That list does not include all of the workers I really need as well. Going to be a slow tough climb, but hiding behind my mountains with DotF seems the only action I can take.
So how to get in a good enough position to repel the knight / crossbowmen that will be in the next army from Persia....
While I ponder on that thought, scout reports from the east
May take some damage, but my area to move is restricted. Keeping this guy alive is the name of the game in the east.
Polish territory is making efforts to return to its former glory...
Those horseman killed a barb archer and will work on the warrior next turn. I have bastion finishing the trader the city started on so many turns ago, just to get one out. Also If I some how manage to finish the commerce district and sukiennice that will be some much needed extra gold. Also 'A ROAD' would be nice. If anything to help move troops around since I suspect another wave of angry barbs will be due from the north again.
Jess continues on with the shrine and the builder will finish within the next couple of centuries in Creator. With bastion bogged down with repairs, walls, and a second district build and Jess badly needing to get another settler or two out, Creator will have to be on builder duty for the time being. With Jess getting the +2 : from city state bonuses it only makes sense to have her build the watermill.
As for my culture situation I am leaning towards Choral Music, 2 is my current situation is helpful, while probably not the best one to take it is culture now and I am hoping to get money from commerce districts and my Polish UB instead of religion. Also the +2 belief will only get 4 and that is what Ill get from an internal trade route, if I can ever get one built.
Well that is the plan, well see if I can keep Persia at bay long enough to remain some kind of threat this game.
Things are quick in Polish lands, my horseman move around to get healed up.
Trader, shrine and builder in the production queues. The battle line between Rose and Bastion is still crystal clear. Nothing to be done at this point.
My horse in the west is also healing slowly.
It is a bit that Armagh has only 18 city strength and I can't leave Bastion to go and attempt to get it. Most likely have some swords when I find some time to head that way.
The battle for Australia is still underway.
With both Archduke and Suboptimal showing forces on there borders. Another city was lost to the Macedon army. Looks like I won't be the first one out.
Good chance he will die, I moved him onto the hill and with the last movement point (i was stuck in the swordsman's ZOC) i upgraded to full HP. I still do not think that is enough.
Back at home it seems that no screenshots were kept, well nothing new. Every one is healing and building the same thing they have been for several turns. Trader will be done in two, shrine and builder done next turn.
I did swap to engineering since it looks like construction is one turn away. Jess still plans to build the mill and bastion will get some walls up after the trader. Every eureka and inspiration counts now.
I also noticed this turn I can go to 'make peace' in the diplo and see Persia's finances, so I can keep an eye on that.
Well sorry lurkers, things have been very busy for me over the last few weeks. However this game is proving to be a fight for Polish existence!
I have many screenshots saved, although I do not have accurate info for the little forum app I wrote so score isn't tracked. I have been prioritising getting info to TheArchDuke for my PBEM7 game as well as the succession game I am playing. I will do my best to sum up and post the screenshots I have, as well as what my thoughts were at that time. So here we go!
Turn (82)
During this time in the game I was focused on scouting for the inevitable Persian assault on bastion.
Also my scout near Suboptimal was trying to get info on the battle.
Currently have 4 horse, and two archers for defense. Walls in bastion are priority #1. With the mill almost complete I can make a civic swap in a few turns. Not much else going on.
