[SPOILER] [PB38] OT4E plays this one because lurking around takes too much time

Cooper is revealed and I think it is clear with our 2nd city, it will be on incense. Any alternatives?
Warrior revealed grassland gems to the south, needless to say that they make me feel much better than plain hill silver.

Nope. It is solid. I would maybe suggest a city 3 on grass between rice and sheep so that it gets better tiles and connects 1 and 2.

But it is not on the coast. Well, possibly. City #3 is not clear now. I hope to reveal more to get better picture.

Sorry for the brief replies. I'm gonna log during the weekend and try to come up with alternative dotmapping.

I have suggested in my alternative dotmap with signs in-game. My main concern with the current one is economy. Firstly, the cities are too far from the capitol which will cost upkeep. Secondly we will lose worker turns and settler turns getting to the cities. Thirdly we do not properly exploit the river valley and floodplains. The downside of my plan is that we do not get fish until later, but we do get the rice instead. We need a bit more scouting to see how we are going to get the gem and deer in proper cities.

First of all about nothern site. I was thinking about that spot first of all too but rejected it. The city with just a pig will be weak for whole game especially considering plain hill silver consuming 2 food. We also doesnt seem to need silver that quick so we can wait to expand borders imho.

We have 2 alternatives:

First one shares rice, flood plain and mine from capital what is good for early game and acceptable for the later phase. Also it gets instantly connected to the cap so may be we could plant it as #3?
Second one gets the same resources as yours but also a sheep. This is not great site but normal as #5-#6 when we will be able to conver forests into development.

About southern cities.

I agree that having a city connected to cap is one of the most important goals because it gives 2 commerce at least. But my considerations were based on the following assumptions:
1) we will have 2 settlers with just 1 worker so working fish seems to be the most relevant choice. Being dependant to worker force makes any location less attractive. The first imporvement we will make will be cooper
2) we want some strong coastal cities
3) I know that we cant plant cities having everything we want in the first circle but what I like to do is to make #3 open some extra tiles for #4, #4 for #5 and so on.

When I plant on my #3 spot I let #4 to use sheep instantly. I think we will be not ready to use sheep with #3 by itself because no hunting and lack of workers but for #4 it can be right in time. #4 does not get gems instantly but after it expands borders. Not perfect but I dont see how we can connect it better and quicker.

Your 3b spot can be very strong for late game but it has nothing besides 4-food tiles for early game what is not good. Also it is worker-dependant. Rice is not really better than flood plain.

I was choosing between green hill and yellow hill, to 1 or to 2 from sheep. Yellow hill is better to plant but it doesnt have fish in first circle and also has much less coasts for Colossus. OTOH green hill placement has much less base production. So I want to hear your opinion about those rwo. 1 road tile will connect them to capital if I understand mechanics right.

Now I think northern site is the best for #2. It will have route and is fastest we can plant. Also this city will best to whip granary in once we get pottery.

We send first settler there, then revolt and whip 2nd settler asap. So we use our tiles in the best way. Rice will give +5 food to #2 while giving just +3 to #1.

I like a northern city for number 2 if it fits better with workers but it should have pigs in first ring so that it can help our snowball by pumping out workers and settlers. If you want it to share rice then plant it 1 east of your red dot. This is the best short term plant. If you want it to be better long term then green is better, that also puts us closer to the juicy pig/wheat spot later on.

If we go for a northern spot then hunting after wheel is the correct choice IMO. Pottery is good too but it can wait a bit. New cities can build workers or warriors atm.

3b is much better when we can hook the sheep fast for 4/1/2.

2 is necessary to get copper so i'm all for it. However, I'm a still skeptical about planting two cities in a row that needs a fishing boat. Much better to plant your 3 later when we can have a fishing boat ready to hook the fish immediately.

About trade routes: as I understand it we get trade on rivers and coast that are within our cultural borders before sailing and outside of our borders after sailing.

City to 6 from red dot is 1 turn later to plant and it requires a warrior to cover settler. I wont take such risk. I will make some estimations but I think we can pop border quick and we still need it to get silver. Also no need to change tech order in this case.
