I think its meaning the forest contained a "tribe". The game usually highlights the tile/mouses over it with events like this.

Isn't that a bit overpowered?

Superdeath built Great Lighthouse. I'm almost glad; it saves me from throwing hammers at it. Have to remember my economy is all of those FIN coast tiles and all the fishing villages. Sure, GLH would have been more economic goodness, but not worth the cost of slowing down expansion when I have Vicky of Inca next door.

That's the settler for the gems/double horse city, too. We'll whip him in 5. I know all the vets know this, but for the newer people who might not: The nice thing about being unhappy and building a settler/worker, is that the angry citizen is kind of ignored. Build anything else and we grow for 7f and put 3h into the production queue while the angry citizen eats up 2 food. But with a food-hammer unit we put in 9f and 3h like we were only at size 3. Maybe they know they're going away on the settler and are just kind of okay with it.

Here's a crooked screenshot of the scouting out west:

So many city spots to grab. My work boat is trying to find Mouseferatu but if I have as much land out here as I do out east then I'm going to run out of city names really fast. At a minimum there's the other spot on the island with Ambush, the single island tile with double clam, the copper/rice, and the double fish. And probably half a dozen more spots I haven't spied out yet.

Capital has grown into unhappiness and started the next settler. This one will go to the Wheat/Cow location in the center-south of the mainland. I have some thoughts about routing this guy out west among the islands here, but then I have to remember that the wheat/cow is better than anything out here, and in addition it is a stepping stone to another excellent city location with the Pig/Stone/Fish/Copper. But after this next wave of settlers gets planted in the next 10 turns then we'll be looking at going west more.

I'm going to be a worker or two short for the east so I'm using the time to figure out how best to allocate them and which city gets to do more with less.

The big question I've been thinking over lately is what my tech path is.  And tied with that is when do I start running specialists and trying to pop out great people.  There are 3 great people I want early on:  1 to bulb a religion tech (Philosophy or Theology), 1 to shrine the religion, and 1 for a golden age.  I think I get these around t100, 110, and 120 using 3 cities: Ambush, Nemesis, and Onslaught.  Onslaught is the ideal one for the 3rd city specialist and running the specialists the longest since it's the city with the least amount of good tiles.  I'm not sure if that's the timing I want yet though, or if I should delay it another 10 turns to get another round of settlers and workers out:  this is a really wide open map after all and we may want to keep pushing expansion a bit longer!

After Writing I am going to want to push for either Currency or the Religious techs.  Currency ahead of Religious techs is still a possibility because of Philosophy:  but because our super cheap markets boost ivory and silk we'll be able to reach size 9 cities with markets.  But I think I need to see what my expenses are with these next round of cities to really be able to judge.

Turn rolled right before I went to bed, and I found it's my turn to see the barbarians come a calling

Instead of heading to finish that farm I'm moving my worker to help me cover barbarians. And sad Onslaught: I just hooked up the ivory this turn to make it happy, only to have to move out the spear to meet the barbarians from the south. Once that axe from Domination comes over then we won't have to cover both the east and the south with that one spear.

You know what they say about plans surviving contact with the enemy...

I can have 2 galleys full of attackers in range in 10 turns. But is that the right play? OH will take as much as he can just because it is a boundary area. I wish I knew how much of a stretch this was for him; it certainly is a stretch for me!

I really don't like him claiming that land where his settler is now. That means I no longer have a backline.

Add to that more barbarians from the south. The axe will be able to clean up the attacker, but I am afraid that northern barbarian is set to pillage the farm no matter what I do.

Need to think these things through and I'm sick to boot. I'll finish the turn later.

How many more peaceful cities can you expand to with OH claiming the isthmus?

Oh, lots!  This is one reason I think I shouldn't be aggressive towards OH yet.

And really I have already over-extended a bit just in getting to Nemesis. That city is 14 tiles away from by capital, by land. Meanwhile I've got spots within 6 tiles to the west that are still unclaimed.

I suspect the settler we see from OH is a similar reach. From knowing him in previous games he is well aware that possession is 9/10ths the law and it is far easier to claim a distant position than to dislodge an established group of cities. So I see him planting those two cities as trying to claim the lands to the north.

But what I have to the south is far better than that long narrow peninsula of land up north. And while there are some nice resource-rich lands, I think it would be an over-extension for me to try to claim them let alone fight another player over them. I can still harass his position on them from where I am sitting at now.

Will you be able to compete with OH without prodding him though? Lurkers need blood!
