Caster of Magic Release thread : latest version 6.06!

I noticed a few things in version 3.1:

1. The enemy Druid hero never cast anything with his 16mp over many turns even though he could presumably have cast Call Centaur for 16mp.

2. The AI chose to cast Focus Magic on a Beastmaster hero (convert bow to magic attack) rather than on Ghouls. Should it not have chosen the Ghouls in that situation?

1.) Call Centaur is 20mp.
2.) Beastmaster is a caster hero.

Ok, the Nature thread indicates Call Centaur is 16mp so that should be corrected.

Also, the Hero Abilities thread indicates the Beastmaster hero is an archer. Is that wrong as well?

Retort Idea: Peasantmaster. One Pick.

Bonus: 1 free settler, one free spearman. Double starting gold. The tile under your capital becomes a Wild Game. (+2 food to feed these 2 units)
Restriction: The player cannot recruit heroes!

Waddya think?

wouldn't play it. maybe only champions?

There is no existing retort we want to remove so no new retorts are possible.

I'd totally play that. Heroes are far far too strong. (Even just using them to sit in my capital I've had games where I'm getting over 100 casting skill from them.)

I'd prefer to have that instead of famous. I don't ever feel famous is worth a pick, and even less for the AI.

I was thinking the same thing, to replace Famous with this one. Famous is a pretty "blah" retort, except when paired with Inquisitor, where it becomes insanely strong. But more importantly, it's pretty crummy from a gameplay standpoint, where you're basically relying on whatever random stuff the game decides to offer you each turn rather than making your own decisions and earning your own resources.

Plus, this would scratch our itch for a multi-settler start!

I was originally thinking that this would be a human-only retort, but, thinking on it more, I bet this would even be a strong retort for the AI, since they're so awful at using heroes effectively. Might only want to give it to them when they have a worthwhile starting race though - the same races as Inquisitor, perhaps.

Agreed. Also, I don't even like famous for inquisitors. If I'm choosing inquisitor, I'm already planning for the majority of my troops to be effective enough that I don't need other races - hiring mercenaries isn't going to change that. It might give some nice variety, but not enough to be worth a pick.

On the other hand, it probably could be worth it for hero strategies. Except, any hero is already easy to pump up to supreme powers - you don't need multiple. And while buying magic items would assist too, again, its overkill. Sure artifacts and special abilities are amazing, but just enchant item quality is enough to make a high invincible hero.

However, I can see famous as a fun pick. It dies get more randomness in the game, and it can be a bit goofy. So its a good retort in that its enjoyable. Just not one that I think has much actual mechanical value.
