[PB61 - Spoiler] Jackrb's Football's coming home

For example let's say you had a Settler at 98/100h and put a pre-Math chop into it, assume for simplicity no other production that turn.

I know you understood the point, but the bolded part is very important here. You're likely to be running a lot of food into the settler, at least early on.

Turn 36/37:

Chop begins to put into granary at Costyon (I also realised I screwed the pooch on timing, needed to start last turn, bleh), and copper begins to be mined. No seafood found in the fog, but there is a mountain island!

Scout will move back to defog coast tiles by plains forest, then move to silk tile to bravely defog the barbarian menace. Warrior will finish in Eversmile as MP police.

I would personally move the scout to the silk tile to fogbust, and only later use a unit/ect to scout that NW fogged sea. (for example, when you settle the plains city 2E of the silk tile) But its upto you if you wanna gamble on a nice friendly barb unit to spawn tongue

2nd city i would have the chop go into the granary, finish granary, and then work on the warrior/axe till size 3 then swap to a worker. (i could also see swapping to a worker NOW, letting the chop hit the worker, whip 2<1 and then regrow on the granary while another chop + the copper mine helps finish the granary off)

Having a fogbusting warrior on the forest tile 1W,SW of the wine tile (west of our 2nd city) wouldnt be a bad idea. The goal is shit out workers/settlers. Emergency whips to deal with barbs are always bad. Better to spend hammers and resources preventing their spawn now then to hope for the luck of the draw imo. I see us getting 10-11 cities rather easily here. Thats plenty for either a Horse Archer attack (kinda late) or a Ballistaphant + Catapult assault on whatever neighbor we feel slighted by is weaker.

Turn 38:
Chop and mine finishes, and with that, we dump 26 hammers into the newly swapped granary in Cosyton. Road needs to connected for copper next. Other worker needs to do... something? Not really well positioned except for another chop into the same Granary, which would free up the city to try and get an axe out.

Also started research on AH, will be useful for 4th city, useful to secure horses, and other key techs we want are classical and are kinda expensive to research right now.

I did read your comments SD, and I'm a little confused by this:
"2nd city i would have the chop go into the granary, finish granary, and then work on the warrior/axe till size 3 then swap to a worker."

City will grow to size 3 before granary finishes. you mean size 4? As that seems more logical to me. Not a fan of whipping worker down to size 1 personally so didn't take that approach. Could? whip granary too although its awful from a timing/foodbox perspective.

You could whip a worker 3->2. Maybe that is waht SD meant?

Guess i didnt see how quickly the granary was finishing. Maybe whip the granary, and work on a worker if you are still(or when you get to) size 3 after the whip? Having that 2nd worker continue with another chop (on that hill 1N of its current location followed by a mine?) into the worker AFTER the granary, followed by whipping the worker- grow on axe? Think that could work out. Depending on happiness needs.

Well, cant be un-spoiled now.. Germany (lol at someone picking Germany in the first place when im fairly sure the same starting techs on a better civ was available..) Has a size 8 city. That...IS NOT a good thing. For them. For us? Its borderline great/bad. Great if they are our neighbor somewhere. Bad if they dont neighbor us because someone else is going to have 10 cities to Germany's 4, and going to pick up alot of extra land because someone probably plays on Settler difficulty?

I dont mean to be harsh, but... WHO is dedlurking that guy and didnt mention that having a size 8 city this early is not something viable. I cant even imagine wrapping my head around how that "could" be a good idea. If he was given a bunch of floodplains corn and gold/gems................................. Maybe? Some wacky double whipping settlers or something weird? .... MAYBE? Green games be wack yo.

Yeah, whats out is out. I'd rather not use spoiled information but I'd put myself at a deliberate disadvantage otherwise.
I have periodically checked demos, have seen a city as large as 6 and just thought 'that's weird, but maybe there's some odd 3pop whip nonsense going on' and thought nothing else of it. 8 pop capital is, wow.

Guess I should check demo's more often heh. Doesn't help right now though, I really have no idea what is out there beyond my two immediate neighbours so..

I like this sort of idea, but I don't think what you've described will work out exactly due to timings. Best course of action from my eyes is: whip granary 2 turns from now (when city grows to size 3), dump overflow and then chop into worker and finish worker, regrow onto axe? Although that might be bad in happiness timings? Could also, whip next turn instead and do the same overflow+chop thing, worse going down to size 1 but happiness is obviously limiting factor here. This is ofc presuming you want granary finished ASAP which I think is a given here.

City for reference, workers are on copper and plains river, not moved em. Foodbox: 17/24, Granary: 26/60 (32/60 next turn)

As an aside, that 'too much overflow' into capital has messed me up, and can only 1 pop whip settler. Was thinking of starting another worker, whipping that and overflowing into settler to finish it.

I'm ok mulling it over for a bit for right now, will just need to make turn before sleep.

Alright, decided on whipping on granary on size 3 in 2nd city, and whipping worker in capital. Best course of action I can think of and don't wanna hold up turns.

Turn 39/40:
Worker roads copper tile
Worker moves 1N to chop, begins chopping
Capital starts a worker and then whips, overflow into settler.

NB: Think another mine at Cosyton would be a good idea, I quite like having my second city be able to build military to escort capital's settlers, especially when trying to expand rapidly.
