Ha, I just realized that after beating back Gavagai's praetorians with horse archers in PB69, I have decided to replay that fight from the other side with my samurai getting massacred at the hands of Krill's horse archers. Since HA are first-strike immune this is practically the same matchup (and result).

Not much to report lately. It's just been whipping and chopping out Samurai. See, I rushed to my goal and then ran out of money. No happiness, no commerce - that tends to stagnate a place. But I figured if I could get some fail gold then I could limp to Currency and maybe still keep going.

Only Krill snuffed that out. Was Krill wrong? Should I have been more greedy and less fatalist? Probably. But then after I lost my stack Commodore and Superdeath both attacked and I thought maybe we'd have a dogpile. Only we didn't. So I peaced out.




So we'll shake Thoth's tree a bit and see what happens. Only our timing sucks, as Superdeath has just been declared on by Commodore and Thoth is now at peace with everybody.

Next GP is coming up - I might try to bulb something.




I might actually settle this.

Need to be a bit more aggressive in getting to Currency. So I'll probably be hiring scientist specialists next turn.

I'm also sending a single samurai off after that barb city in the east. No way I can capture it, but razing it would give me some good gold.

Need about 450g to be able to research Currency.

Actually ... I'm pretty sure history indicates that the first part isn't necessary! Even if your invasions fail and your neighbors sack your cities, if you're the one who writes about it afterward, especially if your culture was widely-known before the debacles, you get to decide who is and isn't a barbarian!

Trebs took the walls down to half strength and then my Samurai both won their fights at ~75% odds.




Negative double digit gpt at 0%. Clearly I'm winning. Held the city because maybe I'll get to Calendar some day and be able to use the happiness.


Can see a sword and a couple axes from Thoth. Will need to raze more to tech anything, though. Currently I'm looking at 650g needed to get Currency done.

Built my second library in the capital. Hiring scientists. This is hilariously bad.

Not sure I agree with Superdeath here:




He is at war with Krill again .... oh wait, did I remember that right? I didn't write it down. Maybe SD is at war with Commodore - well, update tomorrow.

In any case, it would not be a very good avenue to attack Commodore. Though I do want to settle south of Staunton eventually, and work more Colossus-fueled coast.

Speaking of which, it's time to settle the east:




Flawlessly won a 95% attack this turn. With a second Samurai coming up there, we should capture it in 2 turns. Meanwhile, a settler just finished and will head to the marked site so I can get the gold hooked up. Then we'll capture the other barb city in the east and go bankrupt.

The tech pace in this game is wild. I got Astro in PB70 on T133. Any chance you can get Currency by then? Turns out map lushness has a rather large impact.

I have a 1-in-3 chance of researching Currency. Great person gets born end of next turn out of Staunton.

As far as teching it manually? I need to raze some more cities and get some gold. Currently I'm losing 70gpt at 100% and Currency is a 9-turn tech. So... i'm pretty boned long term.
