Square Leg Wrote:What do you propose to use the globe theatre city for in an always peace game?

WHIPPING AND DRAFTING OUT AN ARMY OF CONQUEST!!!! devil

Running lots of specialists I guess. Especially given that I'm hoping to land Sid's Sushi

I get 0.75 food for each resource consumed (clams, crab, fish, and rice). Assuming that I can't get darrell to trade me any of his lol, I still have 13 of those resources, which means 10 extra food in every city. Happiness will be an issue for most cities but the Globe would allow one city to grow to its full potential.

And apparently darrell is home this afternoon watching World Cup so we got another turn in.

:dancing5:

I was wondering if I might have iron there. The plains hill near the 2nd city was another option. I believe darrell does not have IW yet, so he won't know about this.

I'll have to see if this means I can speed up the HG any. One problem I found was in Cortes - I don't have a warrior there so it's now unhappy at size 5 due to lack of MP.

I also found an ice copper hill (0/5/0) in the far north which is not in any proposed city radius but that may be okay.

New HG information, given my iron mine.

T68, current turn: 10/22, 70/201 - size 7, swapped to a worker
T69: 69/40 in worker after double whip to size 5, making 19 f-h/t working clam, corn, engineer, mine and plains forest
T70: 10/20, 26*1.5 = 39 overflow - 109/201 and making 8(12) hpt work the cottage and forest
T71: 14/20, 121/201, work forest and cottage making 8(12)
T72: 10/21, 133/201, swap to worker and work coast
T73: 10/18, 69/40 after double whipping worker - work cottage instead of forest
T74: 10/18, 39 overflow again - 133/201 - chop comes in and HG completes.

I could get it a turn earlier, but that requires some fairly hard starvation as well as not getting another worker rand I think (hope?) that I'm ahead enough that I can risk it. If I miss out by one turn, please slap me around as well as mock and point at me.

One difference with the iron mine is that I can manage to also grow to size 5 on T74 allowing me to "insta"-grow to size 6 with the HG. W/O the iron mine I was always either 1 food or 2 hammers short.

So it came to my attention that I had a decent shot at a double holy city. As I understand it, the mechanics for holy city creation have an 8x bias against the city with the Palace, and a smaller bias for cities with no religions present. Once those are taken into account, then it's weighted to the largest city in terms of population.

So that's why you often get your crappiest newest city as the holy city - it usually doesn't have any religions.

But I've spread Christianity to all my cities, so if I'm angling things right, then I have a decent shot to get Drake (the Christian holy city) as the holy city of the religion of Meditation, which is only a 1t build for me.

But I've got to do it this turn, because I'm about to settle 2 more cities, which won't have religion, and thus "win" the holy city race.

So best odds would seem to be Drake (where I want it) and Magellan (which would not be as good). I suppose it could be another smaller city too since it's random.

We're both off today for the holiday so hopefully we'll learn soon

Does having a double (or even triple) holy city really matter a whole lot? From what I can tell if you plan on adopting one, you only get the benefits of one. Having access to more is good if going for a cultural victory of course but what else?

My thought (and I have no idea how useful it is) is that having a double holy city is useful because you get 2 shrine's worth multiplied by Wall Street.

Having 2 holy cities in different cities is good because you can get the market / bank / grocer in both of them, but only one of the cities can get Wall Street.

I'm not really sure HOW useful it will be - guess we'll see (hopefully)

Just ended turn having researched Meditation but forgot that since we have Choose Religions on it won't show me which city got it till next turn.

Wall street. Something I hadn't thought of. Thanks! In a builder's game that could end up with a decent bonus.

An ancillary benefit is you only have to build 1 market, 1 grocer and 1 bank (well enough banks to build WS). I doubt that's worth TOO terribly much since you're likely going to be building all those buildings in most of your cities anyways
