I suppose it's better to post something rather than nothing, so I'll start with some summarizing and hopefully add pictures when I get home.
We were still in OO when I took over, with several cities basically dependent on happiness from the Religion civic. The Amurites have Firebows and war seems likely soon, so I wanted to transition toward AV instead of Drowns which are especially vulnerable to fire. I went ahead and adopted AV, teched Infernal Pact, and adopted better civics including StW. To compensate for the happiness loss, I whipped Deruptus at our river city and hooked up Sugar at a captured Barb city. Then I cancelled the Amurite Ale for seafood trade and replaced it with Gold and Dye for Sugar and Seafood. The end result is that we lost a lot of happiness (from OO and civics) but gained a lot as well and most cities ended up with a small improvement. Completing the Guild of Hammers didn't hurt either thanks to the Gold trade.
Saverous was at Bradeline's Well when I took over, and we popped a named guardian scorpion with him. I didn't want to wait an extra 3 turns to adopt AV, so I sent Saverous to his death fighting the Guardians of Pristin Pass. We really didn't need that thing hanging over our heads for the rest of the game; it's a little ridiculous how much of an impact it has had on limiting our eastward expansion.
The Lurichiriurip involuntarily gifted us a Caravel, which is amusing because that has to be how we got the caravel we already had. Dwarven Perpentach has a short memory. Meanwhile, I also captured the Sugar Barb city with Guybrush Threepwood. Guybrush and his friends went on to capture the Yggdrasil city(and two slaves) from the Dwarves as well.
I don't understand what the rest of the team is doing with our city management, particularly at the capital. Nobody else seems to be working very many specialists at our National Epic city, which is a shame because another Golden Age would be fantastic for us. I hired a bunch of Sages and we managed to get a low-odds(20%) engineer. I'll save him and our next GP will probably come during the set after mine, and hopefully we'll use it for our second GA. I also cancelled all of the "avoid growth" to let our cities grow into unhappiness. There are actually not very many reasons to avoid growing past the happiness cap and population is a resource we can find uses for.
As far as our overall gameplan goes, I think AV and Infernal Pact was the obvious best move. The Amurite firebows and worldspell could be brutal if we're relying on spells and abilities, so using the Grimoire for Mithril will give us a military they can't disable. Hyborem spawned with the same technologies that we have, so he can adopt Undercouncil with us and if the Amurites don't kill him too quickly we'll be able to benefit from some resolutions. Meanwhile, the AC was already in the low 20s, and I think we're the best equipped to handle Blight even without Sacrifice the Weak.
My set is almost over, but if it weren't I would finish slowbuilding the Grimoire at Tortuga and use it to enable Mithril weaponry. I'd get another great person as quickly as possible and use it with the Engineer to start a GA once Blight is triggered and mitigated. We need as many Mithril units as possible, and it wouldn't hurt to get some Malevolent Designs units as well. Ironically, we've neglected to build much of a Navy so far, and the Dwarves may be able to threaten our cities as a result.

Uhh, Ok, we've still got no military to speak of, and the purple team is coming for us. There is blight about to hit if I build units that can defend, but we've got 0 health buildings anywhere, so this situation kinda sucks, don't know if I'll be able to do anything to be honest. Blight is out of the picture for now. Draft drafts warriors -.-

Gahhh, I could rant for quite a while at the shitty situation my team mates left me in. So far I've managed to hold important cities, if the two of them fall we have lost, I've got nothing more I can do. I'd say it's about 50/50 chances. I don't understand why when I got the save not everything was producing military. This invasion was obvious, we have hawks. Phalanx and melee weapons are important, without it we'd loose for sure. Playing these turns takes so much time cause there is no room for error here. Thats why reporting this mess ain't a lot of fun. I have to defend with 1 mover units without any xp. what has happened to all those great promoted warriors we had. Also preparing for this invasion 3-5 turns earlier would have made for a cake walk, now as it is it is more likely our empire - which btw. was sure to win - will fall
