[SPOILERS] Northstar of the Svartalfar v Bob the Great of the Malakim

I do actually think that Northstar attacked the Barb rather than inviting the attack, so he would have got the "90.3%" odds. However, I understand from others that the CIV odds calculator has limitations, and I believe that one of those particular limitations applies when a unit is injured. I think it's probably because it takes fewer hits to kill and that may not be accurately accounted for. I've also noticed a lot more susceptibility to variance in the FFH2/EitB combat than in the base game (although that may just be because the combat log is off; perception and all that).

BTW Northstar, you're mentioning those lost Scouts every few posts and I think you just need to stop dwelling on it and move on. For you it's distracting, and for the readers it's eye-rolling to see it brought up again and again. Sorry.

You had those odds on attack, because the warrior was on a desert tile.

I thought I was quite clear about this- I attacked the Orc Warrior while it was on the desert tile to get the better odds from the defense penalty (and how would I have defended before ending turn? I followed up the loss by attacking with another Warrior before the Orc could get a chance to heal or take any promotions...)

So it seems you've just confirmed that I was correct, I did indeed lose at 90.3% odds, as you said yourself those are the odds I would have had on the attack...

Ah, my mistake.

I don't think you're right, Dreylin.

Things aren't going well, and I'm really feeling the pain of teching Fishing instead of beelining Mysticism or going for Calendar before...

Even the wildlife seems unhappy with me. Take this Griffon that showed up, ready to eat my Warrior for instance:

Luckily I should be able to outrun it back to my territory...

Meanwhile, my capital has completed another Settler...

I'm going for a Worker and another Settler right away because I need to make up for my mistakes and bad luck earlier... Fortunately, if wild animals heal naturally over time (and what other explanation could there be for that Tiger healing without fortifying or promoting?) then Bob should be in for a nasty surprise when he tries to send a stack east and encounters a highly-promoted and fully-healed Tiger! That, at least, provides me a little buffer from attack to try and turn this desperate situation around by focusing on economics...

The Demographics don't even look all that great- Bob having somehow now caught up in food production. Our brave people will have to take a leap of faith and leave themselves vulnerable to attack by expanding even more rapidly at the expense of safety if I am to have any chance of beating Bob...

Another turn...

Bob's GNP has spiked lately. I wonder what could have caused that... Is it possible he's set up a Gold mine already?

As planned, I founded my third city:

The Nameless Tower. That's an interesting name...

And, with the end of the turn, I immediately began on Message from the Deep... Not a bad choice to beeline all in all, as it is the least costly religion for me to get to from a beakers standpoint (and Bob has a massive beakers/turn lead over me at this point- although aside from already mining the Gold I have no idea how this could be...)

Will switch to God King next turn. I just wish I had teched Mysticism sooner so I could have had its benefits earlier... It would have mean getting my third (and possibly fourth) city set up much earlier, as well as a lot more Warriors/Scouts I could have churned out for defense or to harrass Bob...
