[no players] CiVI Lurking Part II: Sophomore Slump

It's been a very interesting game to watch.

One thing I will say is that Woden's choice of Scripture as his second religious belief seems very uninspired. +25% religious spread from his capital doesn't amount to much, and he'll need to use missionaries to convert his other large cities anyway (especially once Alhambram's religion gets going). With his Theocracy game plan, he'll definitely have the faith to spare. Instead, I would have thought Defender of the Faith (+10 strength near friendly cities) would be the obvious MP option. Or Crusade (+10 strength near enemy cities) for more offense. That's two Great Generals' worth of power, essentially permanently. But picking Scripture locks Woden out of those beliefs, and allows Alhambram to pick them up.

There seems to be a discrepancy between TheArchduke's account of the cotton trade and Singaboy's version, about 50 gold's worth crazyeye . As a global lurker am I allowed to bring this to Singaboy's attention? I'm not sure what the procedure is for this sort of thing.

I just started reading Woden's thread. This game is a lot more interesting than PBEM1 even in the planning stages.

Are we allowed to tell Alhambram that you can't move and pillage with only 3 MP or does that break the lurker code?

Hum, I wonder if the oledavian raid might help Woden switch to fighting mode.

I doubt oledavy will attack woden's warrior but the result won't match woden's expectations from SP vs barbarians. Barbarian horsemen only have 20 strength and 3 movement compared to the normal horsemen's 36 strength and 4 movement.

Similarly, barbarian horse archers are only 10 strength / 15 ranged compared to archers that are 15 /25 (or scythian horse archers that are 15 / 25).

What are the odds of that? 1%? 5%?

I could believe that he might get Seoul in his first strike, but I have a lot of trouble believing that Singaboy will cede the city to him, unless he can inflict existential risk upon Germany. Given that Singaboy now has a veritable military pump, and the two of them are basically at parity now...I just don't see this working out well for OleDavy at all.

I could see it if Archduke offers a joint war, although that factor didn't seem to be mentioned in OldDavey's analysis

It won't be pretty. He (oledavy)'s making the same extremely optimistic assumptions as before (remember his war goals?).
I think it's the MP vs SP problem, i.e. constantly underestimating the human opponents.
(I did it way too many times to forget now.)

That may all be true and it probably only benefits Woden in the end either way. But I get the feeling that Singaboy is going to get ruined by a two-front joint war even though he has done nothing to deserve it. I hope I am wrong, but he doesn't seem to be expecting an attack and is only making a modest attempt at deterrence by maintaining parity.

I've been rooting for him to get out of the turn 3 barbarian hole and he's really close, but I fear it may not be enough.
