I think I understand Sullla's position on gold taking up inventory space now. I did not mind it, although occasionally it was annoying to shuffle around. But my warrior has reached the point of gold plus his magic reading gear filling all available inventory space. To avoid losing anything when quitting the game he has to be able to carry it all, so I am stuck needing to reroll Griswold until I can spend some of the money on something. That gets boring fast.
If I was a bit further in the game at least elixirs would be available to spend some of the money on, but Pepin and Adria are not selling them yet. Is that level based, or do you have to enter Hell to trigger it?

Sulla, could you upload the D1 videos to youtube as well? It'd be a shame to see them go down the Twitch drain.

All of the Livestream broadcasts are archived on Twitch; I only put broadcasts of special interest like the AI Survivor games on YouTube. The past broadcasts are easy to find by clicking on the Videos section of my Twitch channel; here's the most recent Shanty Pete livestream for example: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/432628759
These videos are only getting 5-10 views right now and that doesn't suggest that there's enough interest to export them over to YouTube. Thanks for the interest though!

So long as they don't go anywhere unreachable! 30 mins of Shanty Pete is my daily ration (I guess that makes me 10-20% of the audience ) but I do intend to get my thumb out, buy the game and follow in haphazard1's footsteps soon.

It is a lot of fun. I grumble and complain here in my thread, but I am enjoying the game. There are occasional bits of tedium like re-rolling Griswold (finally got some nice armor ), or "How is that at all fair?" moments like running into a Black Death. But it is easy to see why the game became a classic and spawned an entire genre.
More caves adventuring, found my first elixir. Magic, thankfully and not dex which is maxed out. My warrior is going to need a bunch of these.
Almost died to a pack of storm lords. I was using one of the pillars/chunks of rock to limit how many could melee me, but the rest of the group was smart enough to circle around and flank me. That double melee attack from that many was locking me in blocking animations, almost like being stun locked. Managed to kill one and run before my potion supply ran out, but it was a close call. Maybe I should keep a scroll of phasing in inventory for emergencies? (Not sure I have the magic to use one, actually. But someday....)
Also had another encounter with a spitter beast boss and its fast spit mob. I have no idea how to deal with that situation. It is like accidentally wandering into a bullet hell game, suddenly there are 20+ projectiles on the screen heading right at you. The pack members choose spitting over chasing you, so luring a few away from the mob to kill them separately does not work very well. Any suggestions?

Being block locked is definitely not fun, you can blame yourself for max Dex. LoL

Thanks for the links, KoP. Good info there.
Yes, most of the time high block chance is great to have. But sometimes.... Still it is probably better than being stun locked, as my warrior was not taking damage all that quickly. (Relatively speaking, the storm lords were still doing quite a lot.) That was my first run in with storm lords, and I had not realized just how much more dangerous they were compared to the lower tier versions I had been fighting.
On the spitting beast bosses, I will have to try some different tactics if/when I run into them again.
Back to re-rolling Griswold -- my gold is up to 70K. He did have a better shield last time through this process. Slowly getting stronger and upgrading gear. My warrior will make it to hell and face Diablo -- eventually.

As for gold sinks, there's always spellbooks from Adria, should be at least a little while until you can max out everything you can read by your magic stat.
(Of course then Diablo 2 invented gambling as a mechanic to sink unlimited gold.)

Gambling in D2 is at least a bit more neatly integrated into the game than endlessly starting new games. D3 added crafting costs and upgrading your crafters to sink gold, along with things like purchasing additional stash tabs.
I have bought a few books from Adria for more levels in useful spells like healing and town portal. I don't see the point in throwing 60 thousand gold at a book of golem (a recent one that was for sale) when I could not actually usefully cast it without my reading gear.
Oh well. Re-rolling Griswold is tedious but good stuff does turn up eventually. Bought a better helm (lightning resistance and all stats boost), that absorbed some gold. My warrior actually has enough mana in his 'normal' configuration to barely cast one stone curse now. Slow progress.

Just got caught up on the most recent adventures of Shanty Pete from Friday before Civ AI Survivor. Very interesting to see Sullla take on the spitter boss pack like the ones which had been giving my warrior so much trouble. Stone Curse is barely possible now; I would need a lot of mana potions (along with health potions) to attempt something similar. But at least it is an option. I could also try ranged attacks using a bow -- a pretty decent one dropped recently, and it has been useful.
