[Mjmd #51 No Players] Mjmd Rambles - a civ story

Your right. I should have gone to the right to get out. We made peace turn after.

I had a whole post about forgiveness due to religion and then hinduism popped up in freaking Leap Frog instead of Oregon Trail. I ran literally over 20 plus tests on this and I think the 1 pop city got once....... The whole reason I whipped it to one last turn was because of this..... *#*#&. Thats 5 turns not working the silver (it was dubious if this was the right choice to begin with but I really wanted the vision and influence on that front).

Good news is I got an instant free spread in Lemmings....... 'Some joke about making lemonade here'

Edit: Oregon Trail switched to worker per my plan although there isn't an extra wheat for it to go work anymore...... It will probably go Improve the horse city as that city needs some work and a road. Maybe I'll be blessed with a ton of free religion spreads at least. (I wasn't going to say this so as to not jinx, but I think that cat is out of the bag.)

Ya I'm talking rolling new maps multiple times too just to make sure there weren't predetermined junk in my tests. I was actually getting good results in those tests with size 3 and size 2. However, my sim really wanted to keep giving it to Leap Frog even at 4 and 2. That's why I added the extra whip...... Man does it feel bad and stupid now... It wouldn't have been so crushing without that extra whip. But ya no pressure on the fish city now; was thinking of forking it and the copper city later which would be soo much easier with dominant culture. Man SD got some luck.

Anyways time to pick myself back up. Overcome adversity yada yada. I'm hoping for natural spreads but will build a library in Oregon Trail to grab that wheat. Throws off city 6 timing too. City 6 probably still has to come from there meaning some chops I would like to have saved. Leap Frog gets deer for 5 turns to grow back to size 2. Then capital takes it back because it needs to whip out a library and then get back to 5 pop to work 2 specialists.

This is a set back but I'm not out of this yet.

I wasn't going to report this turn, but I figure I should just to encourage other greens to play. Reporting from work laptop so no pictures. Trust me your going to make mistakes which will then compound with other mistakes to cause issues. But all is not yet lost.

First news: I am second? to 5 cities (India being 1st obviously) SD did a 2 pop whip so I figure hes right behind. Sheep city is Space Invaders (I specifically put it where it wasn't invading anyone's space because not suppose to name cities that might send messages). I didn't play a lot of console games, but this was one of my first and ones I had the most fun with on the PS1. City #5 is Sim City 2000 (I named it 2k instead of 2000 but ah well). I'm pretty sure I bought it at a grade school scholastic book fair.
Other news: Vanrober took a city off of Ramk, which I assume is the one that changed hands earlier.

So remember how I gambled by whipping leap frog to 1 to place a religion and failed (hindsight this was probably bad). Came back to bite me in the butt with another mistake. I had moved the whipped spear west to guard against SD chariots which might start poking around. This turn I moved my units at the beginning of my turn like the noob that I am and only then noticed that a barb warrior had shown up east of Leap Frog, which at 1 pop can't whip and I had no units in range because I had already moved that spear onto a non roaded tile.... I therefore had to whip the spear in poor Lemmings so it can get to Leap Frog in time. I hope the warrior attacks the spear in the city instead of pillaging the silver. Whipped the worker in Oregon Trail as planned so that means right now I have 5 cites but only 6 pop! This also delays writing as I turned off research as there is no point right now.

Positive thoughts: This whole area of the world has the lowest point civs in the game and Ramk and Vanrober will probably be at each other for a while. Once my cities can regrow I can resume plan to get a library in Lemmings and do the whole Lizzy thing. Also, it shouldn't impact city #6 timing as that was going to come from Oregon Trail anyways. Also, the grassland sheep is already improved the turn after Space Invaders was founded, so that was good planning at least.

On the subject of your theme...ever listened to UMBcast? http://umbcast.com/podcast/The_Upper_Memory_Block.xml
Great retrogame 'cast, his Lemmings episode was excellent.
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.

I'll check it out.

AT question. Do I take a 95.6% chance to win against the barb warrior next turn to save the silver? Or do I hope he doesn't pillage and attacks the spear in the city? If he pillages the silver its bad but not game breaking. If I take the chance and it fails I lose the city and have to wait to retake (only good thing about it being holy is it won't get auto razed on 1 pop).

it won't get autorazed in any case - it only gets autorazed if it has NEVER been size 2. Once if grows to size 2, it won't autoraze.

I'd probably take the shot, if I was you.

What AT said. So long as the city has been size 2 at some point, it wont auto-raze although barbs CAN raze cities that they don't apparently want. Also Holy size 1 cities, can be auto-razed.

Learning things and stuff. Ok I'll take the shot.

BTW to add insult to injury advanced my sim just to test if warrior would attack or pillage (I know its not accurate still going to take the shot); anyways at sizes 4/2 Oregon Trail got this time......

Brief update. I promise pictures including graphs some time this week.

Spear won! Will enable me to turn on tech next turn when I'm working the silver again. Will get writing in 4-5 turns. Turn off tech until I get library, turn on tech for math, off again until academy.

Hinduism spread to space invaders; mind I want in either of my other cities much more.

Sending worker to cottage grassland spice and will then chop out the library using last 2nd ring forest and maybe a 3rd ring. Lemmings will be growing fast on both deer having the granary but unlike original plans probably can't do a 2 pop whip anymore as want to get scientists working pronto; maybe 1 pop whip.

Last but not least Vanrober and Ramk made peace. Vanrober has highest power atm but I doubt hes going to leave Ramk border undefended and send it my way.

it's very good news that the spear won, if only because it's expensive to replace a spear and also expensive to lose a city for a few turns wink

Free religious spread is good, in any case.

If you manage to outexpand the other players, you are going to be very tough, so well done.
