Market with engineer slots feels American and still feels VERY powerful, but it at least puts it in line with the other early GP slanted UBs that you have to actually work specialists.
Other than that I think option 2 would be best (if you really don't like courthouse replacement).

What should this market replacement with engineers be called?

I would consider the market with Eng slots more powerful than the current American UB.
I was in the camp about the UB being too strong before I played 65. Now I am not so sure it is a problem. I would recommend letting the current version get some more playing time; it's possible that I just haven't used it correctly and someone will find a better use. But my experience is that it does not feel that strong in practice - I'd probably consider it a middle-of-the-road UB.

Market replacement with Engineers is bonkers strong. I would recommend keeping America UB as it is.

I mean there was a reason VERY was in capitals in my previous post, but at least it would be in line with others. I've partially been arguing in my various game threads vs here, but here is the most basic argument against the current American UB in a nutshell. NONE of the other GP focused UBs get GP points without working a specialists. The next UB that gives specialist points is Russia at UNIVERSITIES.
How about the market giving the +2 generic GP points instead of the library or courthouse? Its later than the library and earlier (most of the time) than the courthouse. This at least would be a compromise, although still in my mind breaking with all other early GP focused buildings.
Or it doesn't have to be GP focused.

Meh too much like the Forum. Better imo to leave it as is until we actually see it broken and exploited in a game. There’s plenty of mechanics that look OP but in practice turn out not so

I mean I think its MUCH stronger than the forum and that was if its the same replacement building / tech. The existence of the forum and the fact its easily better (in 95% of cases) is a strong argument not to "leave it as is". But then you at least have a civ with good UU and medium UB vs a civ with medium UU and GREAT UB.

Nobody plays Russia for the University UB though. I don't see how that's a good argument for the CPL being too strong.
